Re: Gluing Metal?

Chuck,
Hate to tell you but none of the epoxies will hold very long to a hot area.
They get brittle and flake off. If these are small parts, maybe you can tin
the contact area and then use a soldering gun or iron to attach them. That
way you would only have minimal amount of paint area to repair.

Chuck,

metal glue is usually called "solder". JB Weld (an epoxy with steel powder
filler) may work, but you're probably talking about a hot to very hot area, and I
would much prefer a mechanical joint.

How about attaching the pump to a handrail or a bracket attached to the
running board? (The latter is pretty close to prototype practice.)

Gluing Metal?

2000-08-08 Thread Charles W. Walters

I have some small decorative steam pumps I want to adhere to one of my
engines. Knowing I will need to scrap away the paint and both surfaces are
brass, anyone know of a good way to join these parts exclusive of welding or
soldering. Specifically, is there a good glue (maybe a metal epoxy that
melts the parts together such as the one plumbers use to patch holes in
pipes) that will hold as well as a solder piece or a screwed in piece? I
want these to last forever not just a short while and then have to do it
again!

Hi Chuck,

You wrote "My wife is going to kill me when I tell her I want to build
another very soon."

As a way of (possibly) forestalling sudden death, why not buy it for her and
help her build it?

You know, matching "hers and his" accessories! Could be quite cute (*grin*).

Best wishes,
Susan.

Hi Chuck,

You wrote "My wife is going to kill me when I tell her I want to build another very
soon."

As a way of (possibly) forestalling sudden death, why not buy it for her and help her
build it?

You know, matching "hers and his" accessories! Could be quite cute (*grin*).

Best wishes,
Susan.
