Re: Door Prize Flyer ERROR!!!

2001-07-18 Thread Michael Martin

Gary,

Yes, there's a dealer room. I believe Kevin O'Connor is in
charge of that. Let him know right away if you need space.
I believe there has already been some spillover into the
halls.

On a related subject: Have you billed us yet for the price
difference between the Aluminum and Nickel Silver? I don't
want us taking advantage of your generosity!

Also, I have received very few responses from my Door Prize
mailers. I'm a little worried they did not find their way
to their respective destinations. (Am I sounding
paranoid?!) Seriously though, their form factor may not be
well liked by the automated sorting machinery. Have you
received one yet? Was it mangled?

Looking forward to the steamup and spending time with my
steam friends,

Mike

The stainless steel rail clamps you write of are made by Split Jaw in
Portland, OR.

Sulphur Springs has the ss joiners (or at least they did a little over a
year ago).

Stainless Steel Rail Clamps do exist

2001-07-18 Thread Gary Lane

Several train club members have used different brass rail joiners with the
following results:
LGB brass work fine until they get brittle and simply break in half
(over 8 years)
AristoCraft . . . weak even using the screws. Metal is too soft in my
opinion.
Aluminum . . . weak and prone to oxidation
Brass rail clamps . . . one brand simply has broken in half in a matter
of months.
Stainless Steel rail clamps work exceedingly well without
electrolysis or loss of physical bond or loss of electrical contact in the
year I have used them outdoors in rainy Oregon. (I ordered from St. Aubin
Station 1 888 STAUBIN Orders, 1 815- 334-9100 Info, 1 815 334- FAX).

2001-07-18 Thread M. Paterson

I do not have a source for ss joiners. I do wish to
comment upon the use of brass joiners.
I have been using the brass joiners with al rail for
over 8 years without any problems. I am not pushing
any electrons through the track. Yes I have seen
electrolysis between the joiner and the rail. This
has served to "bond" the joiner to the rail and when I
have had to "break" the joint the rail does not appear
to be materially damaged.

Kevin,

What you write matches my experience to the "T".

When my track was electrified, I joined the rails with aluminium joiners
with copper wires and screws for jumpers, using the recommended grease
(whats the name??) and had no problems with electrolysis.
The track is SO eay to clean.

Door Prize Flyer ERROR!!!

2001-07-18 Thread Michael Martin

All,

I recently sent out ~50 postcards to dealers asking for door
prize donations for the
National Summer Steamup.

The date prominently displayed on the mailer is INCORRECT!

Please spread the word, THE CORRECT DATES ARE: JULY 27-29,
2001.

Please excuse my error.
