2002-08-28 Thread Paul Gamlin

I had a ruby that whistled .I was told a piece of stainless steel
screen cut to the size of a dime and put in the front of the boiler tube
would solve the problem
It did .

Subject: NYC Hudson

I'm helping Dan Liebowitz with his new/old Hudson. A few questions:

 - The axle pump seems to be on the low volume side. Is that anybody
else's experience? It's not keeping up... wonder if it's the pump or
if I need to investigate the whole pump system.
 - The burner whistles. (No, I'm not going to build a radiant burner
for it.) Any suggestions for taming the note?

 Thanks!

Hi,

I have the basis for a gas (butane) powered headlight tested out.

If anyone is interested email me when I am back from our US trip in a
couple of week's time and I will put together a sketch.

Best wishes,
Susan.

2002-08-28 Thread Gordon Watson.

Richard,
For the whistling burner, wrap stainless steel insect screen
round the burner, tightly,, 2 layers..
for the axle pump, remove the balls, clean the seats with a D bit, install
new balls[after the tap the ball in the seat trick] brings tears to the
eyes! these pumps supply more water than needed when in good condition.

   Regards Gordon,

Re: G1MRA memberships - USA

2002-08-28 Thread James Curry

With the list mom's forebearance I'd like to get a couple items out for U.S.
G1MRA members;

1. I've had many inquiries over the last few months about lapsing dates
that show up on the mailing labels. Ignore those dates. England won't
remove your name from the roster unless I notify them of a lack of payment.
They've been playing with label merge from their database and someone's
got the expiration date column on the merge list. Fear not, I have the
checkbook and spreadsheet and keep an up-to-date list of who's current and
who's not. Additionally, I forward a copy of the checkbook register to our
British treasurer so they have up-to-date(quarterly anyway) records of all
our financial transactions.

2. I'm going to get all US members squared up to expire at the end of the
year (Fall issue being the last). Pro-rated membership is $6.50/issue. So,
for recent renewals that has been either $13.00 to expire in 12/02(or 1/03
depending on how she's done up the membership cards) or $39.00 ($13 + $26)
which takes people up to 12/03. Some folks like to pay years in advance,
fine by me.

That's all.

Jim

2002-08-28 Thread Daniel R. Fuller

Richard,
One other item to check for with the pump; check the intake in the
tender. I have an Aster Jumbo that would pump water with the hand
pump, but the axle pump would not work. After spending much time
with the axle pump, I realized that the pickup in the tender was an
eyelash from the tender floor. Far enough away to allow the hand
pump to work, but to close for the axle pump to get enough suction
to work. I cut some slits in the pickup assembly and the axle pump
works wonders.

Trial vs Trail newsletter

2002-08-28 Thread Gary

 Arthur,
You may be able to buy an issue from ebay http://pages.ebay.com/index.html
or by writting the newsletter editor an e-mail to ask for a copy, even one
sent in Adobe format via e-mail to help you evaluate your interest.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Gosh, if you like to edit they are looking for editors, which should
guarantee a free issue every month I would expect. :)
If you like how to articles about making guage one engines (mostly live
steam) and rolling stock as well as reading about club activities (mostly
British club activities, written in a clear and informal manner) then this
newsletter will be of interest. There is a short News from the Trade which
is a wonderful way for those of us in the Americas to see some of the
invisible items Europeans commonly view.

Looking forward to completing the short line spur in Eugene, Oregon
