The PLS (Pennsylvania Live Steamers) track was built in 1996. It's hard to
believe that this was before Accucraft, but it was. Some of the new
Accucraft Locos will not fit through our tunnel which only has 8 1/2"
clearance over the railhead and is not wide enough to accommodate some of
the Accucraft narrow gauge locos. There has been some talk about redoing the
tunnel.

The Accucraft K-27 is 6 inches wide. There may be some 7/8 inch to the
foot locos that are wider.

Twin Lakes Railway uses 7" center to center both on the straights and on the
curves and we have had two Accucraft C-16's passing each other with no
problems.

Hey, Walt,

I took the D&RGW clearnace standards from 1955 and scaled them down to 1:20.3.
There's a copy of this drawing at
. This doesn't
tell you how big the models are, but it does tell you how much clearance an
accurately scaled model of a large D&RGW loco would require. I hope that
helps.

Does anyone know of a source for small metric pipe fittings in the US?

Walt,
I think I might have posted this link before a while back. This is a page a
guy Rick Blanchard put together a few years back on useful railroad
dimensions, seems to cover track centers.

Walt: Here in Las Vegas I was concerned with that same problem as I rebuilt my
line. We measured the Bachman electric Shay at the foot boards and found them
to be 6 inches wide. I measured the new Accucraft live steam K-27 during the
National Summer Steamup and found the front end to be 6 inches wide and the
widest part was over the cab window shades at 6 1/2 inches.

And during my Fall Western steamup in October Larry Bangham's coal fired K-27
measured 6 1/2 inches across the front.

I built my tracks with an 8 inch center to center spacing. As for height all
portals, bridges support structures etc. are set at 12 inches above the
railhead.
