They will work just fine - the only effect is shorted use time/re-charge
more often. The battery rating in mah is an expression of how long they
will last. While not an exactly straight line relationship, it's close
enough to say that a 600mah pack will last twice as long as a 300mah pack,
all other things being equal.

You will be able to get 4.8 300ma. Nicads do not handle parallel circuits
very well and will become unbalanced. Radio Shack is Ok, but suppliers
focused on the RC market will have a very wide selection of batteries and
they are usually the higher quality Sanyo Brand. I highly recommend
Cermark Inc. www.cermark.com . They have always
treated me very well. They have chargers and their prices are very
competitive.

PS: As far as batteries go, while at Radio-Shack I saw some small
package size 2.4V 300mah rechargeable batteries for cordless phones.

Each was much smaller than two AA batteries. If a way could be
found to
recharge them, and they were hooked in series (parallel?) would they

serve to provide the 4.8V 600mah wanted by the electronics?

RCS in my Ruby - It's ALIVE!

2001-08-13 Thread Chris Wolcott

While at a local SteamUp with friends in Atlanta, GA over the weekend, I
had a chance to test my RUBY RC setup in a 'REAL WORLD' environment.
(>500' of aluminum track) I was able to achieve a 60' range of control,
but a reliable range was closer to 45-50'. Still not bad for a body
attached antenna. (RCS prefers a wiper to insulated wheel setup, but
this was not possible. They also produce 'R-BOOST' which is supposed to
give a full 100' range.) This was not as good as those with a higher
powered, more traditional joystick controller, but it will meet my needs
fine. It sure beat running down the track, trying to reach down and
adjust the throttle without knocking it off the track or burning myself
in the process!

I have a few details to iron out, then I'll post a write-up with
pictures on my web page.

PS: As far as batteries go, while at Radio-Shack I saw some small
package size 2.4V 300mah rechargeable batteries for cordless phones.
Each was much smaller than two AA batteries. If a way could be found to
recharge them, and they were hooked in series (parallel?) would they
serve to provide the 4.8V 600mah wanted by the electronics?
