Bruce,
No, I acquired it Thursday afternoon about three PM. This is for my employer,
The Naples Depot. The 1244 bell is the third for The Depot, the others are
mine personally, but have been pledged to The Depot as soon as they can raise
the money to provide outdoor "secure" mounts to prevent their theft. I have
also pledged about 20 steam whistles, including a Star Brass W.W.II Liberty
ship whistle, several Lunkenheimer whistles, including the rare early "
Mocking Bird" whistle. Also have a Reading RR 6 chime that has fantastic
sound and is considered 'very collectable.' About 5 years ago I was offered
my choice of any four whistles from a collection of over 250, or cash
amounting to over $6,000.00 for it. It is still in my grubby little hands,
although I do not attempt to pick it up due to the recurring hernia problem.

Dave,
For the 7.5" gauge live steam track at The Naples Depot, (my employer)
I need at least two more sets of cast iron or cast aluminum rail road
crossing "crossbucks." We also need two finials for the top of the posts that
carry the crossbucks and lights. We have enough sets of both way flashing
lights, but I'll have to make new targets and visors for them. I thought I
had a crossing bell lined up, but that did not materialize, so could use that
also. Sometime in the future I'd like to get some semaphores, an upper
quadrant and a lower quadrant would be great. Crossing gates are reportedly
hard to locate and are quite expensive, so I guess I'll have to use
condominium or parking lot type lift arm gates.
Even though the Fed RR agency says we do not need anything more than simple
crossbucks (without lights), the City is being overly cautious and requiring
the full load of crossing protection even though the crossings are on private
property and are just the two entrances/exits of our parking lot.
The Naples Depot will be celebrating it's Diamond Anniversary this coming
year and we will be initiating a multi million fund drive to establish an
endowment fund that will generate enough revenue to keep this National
Historic Register building going for another 75 years.
Any help would be appreciated.
Keep your steam up!

while i always try to keep the list focused on small-scale live
steam, i believe that there are certain aspects of railroadania -- i
love that word -- that are fair game for discussion here.

full-scale bells and whistles, certainly, would fall into this category.

for example, i have spent way, way too much time in the last
couple-three weeks seeking out prototype railroad crossing signs and
lights. if anyone wants to know where to get real, new full-scale
crossing bucks or 30-inch yellow rr signs, i now have a couple of
sources. i also have a line on quarter-scale brass bells (new) ...

contact me off list if yr interested.

see how this works? ;-) ...

Are we to assume that you came into possession of this bell in your youth?

Peter,
I had a reply from a guy at the Wabash Historical Society. He seems pretty
sure it is the General's bell. If that is true, the durn thing is around 120
years old!

My apologies to the list, this should not be here, it is not Ga1 steam.

Walt ..

Checking in the roster in my copy of "Wabash" by Heimburger I find the
following:

North Missouri RR #35 "Gen. Sherman" re 244 (1880) re 1244 (1885) re 244
(1887) - Class D7 (4-4-0) - blt Mason #263 6/67 scr 95

North Missouri reorg 1/72 as St Louis, Kansas City & Northern
StL KC & N consolidated 11/79 into Wabash St Louis & Pacific
WStL&P reorg 3/87 as Wabash

The 1885 re was part of overall Gould renumbering, and was dropped in 1887
(probably at the same time the reorg took place) ...

Trent,
I found the diesel roster, but could not find a steam one earlier today. I
hope there is one out there somewhere. So far our collection has five STEAM
engine bells and one EMD diesel bell.

Hello Walt and Mr. Lunk,

I had to search for a couple of minutes but found this link to the Wabash RR
Historical Society in my bookmarks. I didn't see where they had a steam roster
but they have a diesel roster. Maybe someone with the page can help.

http://elpws01.ce.mediaone.net/wabashrr/wrhs/wrhs.html

If the link doesn't work, type "people" instead of "elpws01". When I clicked
the link it rolled me over to the link above.
  Hope it helps.

Later,
Trent

Does anyone know of a site on the net that would have a roster of Wabash RR
steam locomotives? Specifically, we want to find if there was a locomotive
numbered 1244.
