Re: new loco
Vance, Great news about receiving the Accucraft Mogul! (But sorry to hear about the damage.) After you get to steam it let us all know all about it. Steve [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Not a lot of news here, but enough to get me excited. My Accucraft Mogul arrived yesterday. I unpacked it as soon as I got home and admired it. In any case, it's a little beauty and I'm really looking forward to running it. Alas, not this weekend (sob!). I have to work this weekend and I'm not really happy about it. I know that Rob raises money to support his habit by selling N scale equipment. Lets see how many n gauge cars would it take to come up with enough moulah to buy that loco? Re: New Loco
Thanks for your reply Victor. I was trying to run outside last night in 20 deg. temps. I think that was most of my problems. the pressure would drop very quickly when I tried to go. I do have a fan for starting the fire. Re: New Loco
Robb, Ok, what's your secret? In the photos on your web page you show a new steamer in one picture and a smiling wife (only an assumption) in another. Were these pictures taken at the same time? If so, consider yourself a lucky fellow. Let's see if she's still smiling after buying your 4th or 5th engine and a rather impressive roster of rolling stock. Good looking engine. Later, Trent
Re: New Loco
There are several answers to this question, depending on your equipment and whether you have steam up or not. If you are using a suction fan to raise steam, then just leave the blower closed until pressure is up. If you are pressurizing the boiler itself (using LBSC's suggestion of a tyre pump, for example), then opening the blower until you just hear a gentle whoosh will be enough to raise steam quickly and efficiently. After steam is up and the loco is sitting on the track, open the blower just enough that you can barely feel the blast when you hold your hand over the smoke stack. On most engines most of the time you can close the blower just before you open the regulator and start the train in motion. You might need to leave the blower open for very low speed operation.
