That seems like it would introduce a fairly significant administrative burden. As an operator, I don't particularly want to manage remote children of a local collection node. I still think a small modification to XEP-0248: PubSub Collection Nodes to allow remote node association would make XEP-0253 totally redundant and simplify things a lot. just my 2 yen.
