[OT] Deploying EJB2.0 with EJB1.1

2003-09-04 Thread Vijay Pawar

Hi ALL,

I have a small issue that is stuck up like a bone in my throat !

In my ejb-jar file I have some MDBs and some EJB1.1 entity beans (CMP).

I have used "http://java.sun.com/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd";
in the ejb-jar.xml

When i try to create RMIC deploy code on WSAD5.0, everything fails.

Is there any way by which i can accomodate the EJB2.0 compliant beans (Entity/MDB)
along with EJB1.1 beans in the same ejb-jar file.

I would appreciate a ray of hope !

Thanks & Regards
Vijay Pawar

Hello,

I'm not going to say anything about choosing struts is the right choice. And
I think some people won't call it a TOOL, it's more like a framework...

What I can say is something about the Bars Graph tool/library you need.

I personally think that http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/index.html is a very
good one and it's Open Source (LGPL) and free. There is also another project
that uses this library for a custom tag library called:
http://cewolf.sourceforge.net/

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Ronald

Subject: Bars Graph

Hello,

I have following needs:

* parse a text files on daily basis
* put the result into database
* buit a web application upon above database
* provide the client a web form where he can choose which graph to see
* on submit, connect to database, plot the graph(bars) and render it to
the client as an image

I would like to build my web application using struts (hope i have
choosen a right tool :-) )

Is there any re-usable component that will build graphs (image) for me.
Let say, i will give it (x,y) pairs of data and it will build bars graph
?

Any inputs is welcome.

Thanks in advance

I would have said netbeans a year ago, but now I'm an eclipse 2 (2.1) fan.
Haven't tried any recent (last 6 months) IDEs other than eclipse.

+1 on NetBeans although I've not used Eclipse. I tend to stop looking
when I find something that works.

However, I find that 90% of the time it's quicker for me to just use vi
and Ant. I use NetBeans for debugging though. And if I'm forced to use
Windows for my development I'll immediately install NetBeans.

Best Book on Struts

2003-06-17 Thread Vijay Pawar
Hi all,

I am a struts newbie and am happy with the struts-documentaion.war

Can anyone suggest a good book on struts. I feel that all the books
mentioned in the documentation - resources would definately be good, but
out of all those 6 shown, which one would be the best buy !

PS : I have to buy the book from my own expenses and my company is not
gonna buy it for me.

Hello Steve,

As you have correctly guessed, my machine is not connected to the internet
all the time.

Is it not possbile to store the dtd on the local machine. what is the need
to access it via the internet.

Suppose i copy the dtd from the url then where should i store it on the
local machine so that struts can find it out automatically.

Thanks for your help

Digester errors in struts example]

2003-06-12 Thread Vijay Pawar

Hi,

I am using tomcat 4.1.18 on windows 2000

I have recently added a new webapp (struts-example-2002-06-11.war) to my
webapps directory.

I downloaded this struts example from :
http://bobcat.webappcabaret.net/ninsky/struts-examples-2002-06-11.war

Now when i restarted tomcat, there are lots and lots of exceptions being
thrown but before i can read them they get overwritten in the dos window.

I wish to send all these errors to a log file so that I can read it and
see what caused these errors.

How can we redirect the tomcat startup exceptions trace to a file ?

Before i can read the exception trace, it gets scrolled up. There is some
socket connect exception and some Digester exception.

Any hints ?

Thanking in advance,
Vijay Pawar

 newtextwin( "textarea.jsp?title="+title+"&qstr="+qstr+"");
}

[OT] dom - createElement("textarea") cannot invoke javascript

2003-06-09 Thread Vijay Pawar
Hi All,

I would be obliged if someone helps me in this.

I am dynamically creating rows in my jsp by using the dom-tree functions

To create a text field i use :-

document.createElement("");

The above code works fine and on double clicking, the the alert is invoked.

Now to create a text area using dom i use the following code :-

var td5 =   document.createElement("textarea");
td5.setAttribute("name","mytextarea");
td5.setAttribute("cols","10");
td5.setAttribute("rows","2");
td5.setAttribute("wrap","PHYSICAL");

Now i wish to add a javascript event to this text area and so i tried the
following
td5.setAttribute("ondblClick=alert('hello')");

But this does not work. Can anyone please tell me how to add javascript
events to a text area that is generated like this.

Thanking in advance,
Vijay

[OT] Logging.. when to use it

2003-06-08 Thread Vijay Pawar
Hi All,

I wish to know when to use the logging.

What are the application senarios where logging will be useful. I mean to
say that what will be the ideal situations where logging can be used.

I would appreciate an eye opening reply for this.

Cheers

struts based open source project

2003-06-02 Thread Vijay Pawar
Hi All,

Would it be a great idea to start a new project on sourceforge.net and
base it on struts framework. This will help us in learning about struts
and implementing it as we go along.

I would encourage the patrons/experienced guys to set up such a project so
that it will help us all newbies to start working with struts without
waiting for some new project to come our way in our organizations.

I would like to be one of the developers and contribute to such a project.

It would be encouraging if any experienced struts user replies to this post.

Cheers !

How to change to a different locale

2003-05-30 Thread Vijay Pawar
Hi All,

In the struts-example.war, there are 3 files for ApplicationResources

They are,

org.apache.webapp.example.ApplicationResources.properties,
org.apache.webapp.example.ApplicationResources_jp.properties,
org.apache.webapp.example.ApplicationResources_ru.properties,

I have the following questions :-
(1) When i execute http://localhost:8080/struts-example/
then i get all messages in english. What configuration will i have to
change so that I can see the application in japanese or russian. i.e how
can we tell struts to use ApplicationResources_jp.properties or
ApplicaitonResources_ru.properties

(2) If i have to create a new ApplicationResources_de.properties file,
then is there any tool to convert text messages into unicode equivalents.

Suppose i have a message in German like :- Guten Tag ! meaning Good day,
how do i get the unicode equivalent of it ( I dont wish to manually
convert all characters to their unicode equivalents :0)~

 - Conditionally display a set of accumulated error messages.
Displays a set of error messages prepared by a business logic component
and stored as an ActionErrors object, a String, or a String array in
request scope. If such a bean is not found, nothing will be rendered.

In order to use this tag successfully, you must have defined an
application scope MessageResources bean under the default attribute name,
with at least the following message keys:

errors.header - Text that will be rendered before the error messages list.
Typically, this message text will end with to start the error
messages list.

errors.footer - Text that will be rendered after the error messages list.
Typically, this message text will begin with to end the error
messages list.

Attributes for this tag :- >

bundle:
The servlet context attribute key for the MessageResources instance to
use. If not specified, defaults to the application resources configured
for our action servlet. [RT Expr]

locale:
The session attribute key for the Locale used to select messages to be
displayed. If not specified, defaults to the Struts standard value. [RT
Expr]

name:
Name of the request scope bean under which our error messages have been
stored. If not present, the name specified by the Action.ERROR_KEY
constant string will be used. [RT Expr]

property:
Name of the property for which error messages should be displayed. If not
specified, all error messages (regardless of property) are displayed. [RT
Expr]
