RE: Has anyone deployed struts to iPlanet?

2000-12-15 Thread Punyansky, Alex

George,

We were also surprised by this. We had several problems, most of which had
workarounds. But as Mark mentioned before we got stuck with the following
problem:

We set request attribute ( javax.servlet.jsp.jspException as mentioned in
Jsp 1.1 spec ) in servlet and forwarded request to JSP error page where this
exception was supposed to be displayed. But it didn't work. We called to
IPlanet support, and they told us that this worked when you forwarded
request from servlet to servlet or from JSP to JSP but NOT from servlet to
JSP ( I have no idea why they distinguished between JSPs and servlets when
in reality JSP is a servlet ). Moreover IPlanet's technical guys told us
that this is not a bug and as such we'll be put as a FEATURE in a future
service pack. Since this was very important for us because our application
was based on Model 2 at a time, we decided to look at other products.

I don't know what the current status is though.

Alex

Craig,

If only IPlanet support and engineering group people were as responsive as
you are :-).

By the way ... last night, I checked in a new version of MessageResources
that
is now Serializable. It is in the 20001215 nightly build (yes, the nightly
build is back as well).

RE: Has anyone deployed struts to iPlanet?

2000-12-15 Thread Zeltser, Mark

We tried to deploy on iPlanet 6.0 with not much success. Our application was
a stripped version of struts. Deployment was a nightmare, support was
terrible. The application choked when servlet was redirecting exceptions to
JSP pages.

After numerous follow ups with iPlanet engineering group we gave up and
experimented with WebLogic 6.0. The deployment process was simple (our app
was already converted to struts at this point) We were able to run the app
after not using MessageResources :)(pleaser read previous e-mails re. this
issue and Craig's follow up ).

BTW, I found www.theserverside.com site useful for application server
reviews.

Mark.
