Tomeu and I had a quick chat about this. A 'full restore' could be done from Journal via rsync+ssh with no changes on the XS side (at least for some scenarios). If we are going to do it for 9.1, we should be doing it now, not later... I am not sure how or when things will get prioritised for 9.1, but if 'full restore' is a high priority ticket (which I am not sure about) then we'd need to hear from Greg on this track, and have a bit of a catch up to flesh it out.
