[Sugar-devel] [sugar-build] Recent improvements

2012-11-16 Thread Daniel Narvaez
Hello,

in the last couple of weeks I worked a lot on sugar-build and made a
bunch of improvements:

* The check-system comand can now remove unnecessary packages. This
functionality is used in the buildbot, which is now always running on
the minimal sufficient system. As a result we should now be able to
detect any problem in the dependencies configuration. A big step
towards the always running out of the box goal.
* UI tests works also under Ubuntu and they are much more stable then
before. I haven't seen any random failure since I rewrote them,
crossing fingers.
* More consistent command line interface. All the commands you can
pass to make, you can also run inside a shell.
* The auto-install command now automatically watches all the sugar
core modules, so it's even handier than before. Way better than having
to keep running make install over and over!
* Easier to find errors in buildbot. The output logs used to be kind
of messed up and they didn't stop at the first error. That made really
hard to find the real problem.
* Much cleaner source code. I got rid of jhbuild and replaced it with
a simple python script which covers our need (and it's much easier to
customize).
* As I mentioned elsewhere we now support Ubuntu 12.10 and,
experimentally since it's not yet released, Fedora 18.
* Better documentation (source in the sugar-docs module)

[Sugar-devel] [FEATURE-BROKEN] Send to Friend feature not working in os11

2012-11-16 Thread Ajay Garg
Hi all.

On XO-1.75s, os11 image, the Send to Friend feature isn't working.

Is it a known issue?
Doing a simple textual send to search on bugs.sugarlabs.org did not yield
anything useful.

sprint beginning on November 26. This is a great chance for the youth
who have been so instrumental in our growth over the past year to show
off their talents to the world (and two of them will hopefully win a
trip to visit Google). Please help Chris Leonard and me finalize the
project and mentor lists over the next few days. (We are offering
coding projects, documentation and training projects, outreach,
quality assurance, and user interface, so even if you are not a

NOTE TO MENTORS: Please create an account on [1] and fill out the

 2. I am in transit back to Boston from a 3-day trip to Chihuahua,
Mexico. I gave a lecture on Sugar at Campuslink 2.0, the annual tech
conference at UACH. I had a lot of fun with the faculty and students
and even managed to squeeze in a short tutorial on hacking Sugar on my
way to the airport this morning. I am looking forward to growing
participation in the Sugar community. (Note to CJL: they are very
interested in providing Rarámuri language support for Sugar.)

 3. Sugar Labs is holding its annual election to the oversight board
early next month. In anticipation of the election, I urge you to sign
up for membership in the Sugar community. You need not be a software
developer to join: contributions come in many forms, including:
teaching, documenting, promoting, supporting, etc. (Note: there is no
membership fee.) So, if you are not already a member, please sign up
 at [3] before 23 November.

If you're wondering whether you meet the requirements, if you're a
teacher using Sugar in your classroom, regularly reading mailing
lists, or have discussed Sugar in IRC, you probably do.

If you are interested in running for one of the open board seats, open
to any community member, please feel free to contact me or the
membership committee with any questions before 7 December.

 4. Irma Alvarez has completed Fructose (and Dextrose) translations of

 * My text editor for GNOME (on gtk 2) (Cristian Garcia)
 * Sugar (Zubiaga Augustine and Naughty Cristofer)

Re: [Sugar-devel] [sugar-build] Planning to drop gtk2 support

2012-11-16 Thread S. Daniel Francis
Are you talking about that Sugar-build isn't going to build anymore
sugar-toolkit-gtk2?
The Gtk2 environment/dependencies are generally pre-installed on
standard systems. Not in mini-distros, but it's not the case of Fedora
and Ubuntu.
I agree in that a build from sources isn't appropiated when nobody
needs to contribute on it. But rmp/deb packages are all what we need
to run activities in Gtk2. Maybe any packager could tell us about a
place to get them.

Cheers.
