Is this actually a Memory Stick or do you mean a USB flash drive?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Stick

Ajay said pen-drive, and I took that to mean a USB flash drive.

Yes, this is SL #4255.

Interesting, thanks. Updated SL #4255. I've never seen data counters
in 13.1.0 builds.

I think your tests show that Ajay's problem is likely to be unique to
the pen-drive in use. Thanks for that.

Re: [Sugar-devel] [TRANSIENT ISSUE] 3G-Modem not being recognised

2012-11-22 Thread forster
I repeated these tests
XO-1.75 and XO-4
OS14
Huawei E160E modem
Imation 8GB memory stick

I was unable to replicate the fault described by Ajay, the modem appeared in
the frame, both plugged in after boot and before boot

but for both laptops

In the first test, memory stick and modem plugged in after boot, the frame
never got past displaying connecting, even though I could browse the net ok

In the second test, memory stick and modem plugged in before boot, I got to the
connected display in the frame but the upload and download kB counters never
updated past 0 even though I was browsing, the connected time did update ok.

I did not try without the memory stick.

Re: [Sugar-devel] OLPC OS on Zync Z930 Tablet

2012-11-22 Thread Johnson Chetty
Hey,

Yes... we're working on getting Sugar on the tablet form factor.
We're looking at compiling Sugar for an armv7 chip based tablet. (Allwinner
A10 chip- armhf ). There are many cheap tablets flooding the market here in
India, so we thought it is a good idea to get Sugar on them.
Would be quite cost effective, (not in the long run though, none of them
are as sturdy as the XOs)
Getting the touch screen and multi-touch capabilities in linux are
seemingly a problem here.
If anyone is working on the linux/environment configuration for the new
XOs, would love to get some technical guidance for this..

I downloaded 13.1.0 os14 for XO-1.75 and tested for your problem about
ten times, and it never happened.

I don't know if there was a fix, or if your USB flash drive is somehow
unique.

I suggest you try testing os14, or dig deeper into why cdc_ether is
not starting.

I can think of two ways this could possibly work. One is to "dual boot" so
that the entire Fedora+Sugar stack lives on a storage medium and the tablet
boots into it. The other is to reuse the Linux part of the Android stack,
but to run a different upper stack like how Ubuntu on Android works (
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android). A similar approach is used with
Debian on Android where the Debian system lives in a chroot.

dconf should eventually completely replace gconf. It hasn't yet
because there just hasn't been the development time. GNOME is moving
to dconf for everything which means once we do we can share the
settings between both environments.

I suspect (although could be completely wrong) the underlying
components of Browse are getting the settings from WebKit which is
likely using the gnome dconf settings.

Is there any reason why you can't use a transparent proxy on the
network edge which will mean its all configured and controlled from a
central location rather than through individual settings on each of
the laptops?

That is the plan but it's a matter of resources and development time
to make that happen and ensure that all Activities are updated for the
plan.
