I am interested in being a mentor. I probably will not have time for
administrator this summer.

My goal is to finish the summer with a completely functional, stable
(and fun, of course) Music Blocks, which I believe is doable. I am
continuing efforts (testing charts, final mockups, etc) to try to set us
up for success in this endeavor.

Count me in as a mentor.

As I suggested in #sugar, we should focus on FIXING/OPTIMIZING code
instead of creating new one this year.. (I know it's students choice,
but we can put some ideas in the wiki)

Re: [Sugar-devel] [SLOBS] Google Summer of Code 2017

2017-01-22 Thread Lionel Laské
Hi all,

SugarLabs participation in GSoC is very important. Previous GSoC give me
lot of opportunities to improve Sugarizer activities/features in a very
impressive way. I don't have Sugarizer projects proposal for GSoC 2017 for
the moment but I will certainly have projects to submit.

BTW I think that we must be very cautious on:
- Project selection: one project is one token, i.e. one student working for
us during months. We can't lost a token opportunity for a project with few
interest or with few chance to go to its end. We should have an objective
view on project from last years: how many projects are really integrated
into Sugar/Sugarizer today ?
- Mentor selection: a mentor should be someone with experience on its
subject. He must perfectly know the project, the project goal and must have
a very good technical knowledge of its subject. So, sorry to say that not
everyone could be a mentor.

May be it could be interesting to imagine a sort of selection process for
projects, then for mentors.

Best regards for France.

Lionel.

The admin role (we need two) is more about managing the logistics: ensuring
we are fulfilling all of our obligations as a participating organization in

In my opinion Sugar Labs participation in Google Summer of Code is really
important for our community and every year we get a lot of major
improvements to our projects, because of students working in this program.

I am definietely for making an application, I am also ready to help as a
mentor.
