Re: [Sugar-devel] Sugar-devel Digest, Vol 132, Issue 6

2019-10-12 Thread Freddie N
Great to hear that we are taking part again. I would be interested in
mentoring this year after being a participant in the program last year.
Specifically I could help with coding tasks in Music Blocks, the website
and Sugarizer. I can also help with documentation, outreach and design.

Thanks,
Freddie

[Sugar-devel] GCI 2019 Announced

2019-09-23 Thread Freddie N
Hi everyone,

Google Code-In 2019 has now been officially announced running from 2nd December
to 23rd January.

Read more here:
https://opensource.googleblog.com/2019/09/google-code-in-2019-is-right-around_23.html

The dates are even later this year.

It has been very successful at encouraging open source within Sugar Labs for
many years with contributors still around from the first year we entered.

[Sugar-devel] GCI Thank you

2018-12-12 Thread Freddie N
Dear GCI Mentors,

As GCI comes to a close, I would like to thank all the mentors who took
part this year. As a GCI student, I have learnt more than I ever would have
expected during the process and each task has always got me engaged.
Initiatives like GCI would not be possible without your dedication and time
that you put towards it. Although I will miss having my tasks being
approved, I look forward to contributing to Sugar Labs in the future.

If you are interested, I wrote about my experiences here:
https://medium.com/@freddie.nicholson123/the-journey-i-think-every-young-programmer-should-take-my-experience-with-gci-83cd63f98565

I hope you manage to get a well-deserved break this holiday season.

Re: [Sugar-devel] Problem with Sugarizer School Box

2018-12-10 Thread Freddie N
Hi Sarthak,

What Raspberry Pi are you using? There are several reasons why this might
occur:

- Corrupt SD card
- Poor power supply
- Image writing mistake
- Broken raspberry pi
- etc...

When there is a problem with a Raspberry Pi boot it normally displays an
error code by flashing the status LEDs so I would suggest looking online.
The Raspberry Pi forums and Stack Overflow often save the day for me :).

I made a video of me setting it up here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni8MJeBlGYY. However, it is designed for
complete beginners so it is quite long.

Hope you manage to get it working,
Freddie

Re: [Sugar-devel] Help on sugarizer data store

2018-12-05 Thread Freddie N
Hi Joel,

Have you had a look at the sugarizer datastore tutorial?
https://github.com/sugarlabs/sugarizer/blob/master/docs/tutorial_step4.md

I found it really helpful when starting out (the entire tutorial is a great
intro to developing with sugarizer). If you have already seen it, perhaps
you could give more detail on what is causing issues. I’m often on IRC
#sugar and would be happy to help there aswell.

Good luck!
Freddie
