[Sugar-devel] Idea Discussion for Improve and Maintain 25 sugar activities

2020-03-11 Thread ayush nawal
G'day,

As I was going through activities selection for my proposal, I am facing
some doubts while planning for the issue to work on in a particular
activity.

In my opinion, Along with fixing bugs and adding new features, upgrading
all the required dependencies of the 25 proposed activity to the latest and
release-ready state also comes under the maintenance work.

There are still a lot of activities with good learning values not ported to
GTK3 or python3, and also required many other forms of porting like
updating collabwrapper, gobject to glib, gconf to gio.settings, etc.

Can I include these issues (along with feature additions and bug fixes) in
my application too under the maintenance section for an activity?

Also, review required here :
#1
#13
#15

Thanks
Ayush

Re: [Sugar-devel] GSOC 2020

Assuming that you have successfully set up a sugar development environment.

It is strongly recommended to once go through the sugar-docs especially:
https://github.com/sugarlabs/sugar-docs/blob/master/src/contributing.md

After the setup, you can simply fork, clone and work on an activity you
wish to contribute to. You can try solving existing issues or any issue of
your own which you faced while exploring the activities.
There is no need to ask permission to work on an issue.

Also, there are many activities that have hardly 1 or 2 issues open, you
need to figure out the issues(if exist) in such cases by yourself and
submit a pull request for the same, open a new issue in any activity only
when you are unable to solve that problem.

Given your interest in the project: Port Sugar and core activities to
python3
You can try contributing to activities that need some form of porting.

Hope it helps, Thanks

[Sugar-devel] Regarding GSOC 2020

2020-02-24 Thread ayush nawal
Hello everyone, I am Ayush Nawal, an electronics undergrad.

I have been contributing to sugar labs from the last 3 months, my
contributions majorly revolved around many activities that needed some form
of porting, solving existing issues. I am currently working on some of my
pending pull requests.

I wish to participate in GSoC 2020, for that, please guide me if I need to
contribute project specific to back my proposal with some good pull
requests.

I have gone through the ideas page. I found these ideas more suitable for
me:
1) port sugar and core activities to python 3.
2) improve and maintain at least 25 sugar activities.
