Re: [Sugar-devel] Testing alias

2015-05-06 Thread samson goddy
Hello Sebastian,

The reason why i was able to access the list was because Walter made one of the
committee members. About spykidacu...@outlook.com, is a volunteer in Sugar
Labs and also his in my Sugar Labs team in Nigeria, which Walter know of. I
don't understand why you have to remove me in the membership committee, that i
don't understand. Is there any way i shouldn't be in the membership committee?.
About the local backup i thing is a great idea. Hoping on hearing from you soon.

 Subject: Testing alias

 Hello Caryl, Bernie, Walter,
At this time members@sugarlabs forwards to the 4 of us.

This email is to test this redirection.

I found samsongoddy in the aliases for members, and removed him
because he isn't in the membership committee, that I know of.

I also found samsongoddy, luke, and spykidacu...@outlook.com have
write access to the membership list spreadsheet.
Luke is the owner of the file so there is no way to remove him (and if
he closes his google account, possibly we loose the membership list).

I think in the future we should move this list at least to a different
account, or ideally put it on our own infrastructure.
I've made a local backup in OpenDocument format, just in case.

Anyway, we are ready now to begin surveying / voting.
Also Caryl and I can process new membership requests.

We will be communicating about an initial survey soon.

Next I'll edit the Committee wiki page.

 Regards,
 Sebastian

 2. Sure. We have a process which is in the Governance page
 http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs/Governance. I volunteered to
the committee because there had been 2 years without elections and never
have there been a survey to keep the membership list current. These are the
main responsibilities of the Election and Membership committee.

We'd be glad to have you.
 In short, do this:
 - Read the governance / membership committee pages
 - Write to SLOBS requesting to be a member
 - Wait for a vote

For us (Caryl and me), it took almost 2 months to be confirmed, official
member of election committee. However, in that opportunity, SLOBS voted
that they would solicit help from young members so maybe they will be more
 expedite for you.

 Thanks and good luck!

Hi Walter,

Membership Committee is not a Team. It is a committee, and it needs
vetting by SLOBs according to the Governance page
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs/Governance.

Neither you or I have the authority to accept samsongoddy, as I read it.

I remember we explicitly proposed add one more member to the committee,
and Walter proposed try include a young hacker.

Yes. I recall the discussion. When I finish creating the Decisions page in
the wiki, it will be easier to track these things.

+1 from me as well. So we have the necessary 4 votes. Samson, welcome
(again) to the Membership Committee.

regards.

volunteered to the committee because there had been 2 years without
elections and never have there been a survey to keep the membership list
current. These are the main responsibilities of the Election and Membership
committee. We'd be glad to have you. In short, do this: - Read the
governance / membership committee pages - Write to SLOBS requesting to
be a member - Wait for a vote For us (Caryl and me), it took almost 2
months to be confirmed, official member of election committee. However, in
that opportunity, SLOBS voted that they would solicit help from young
members so maybe they will be more expedite for you. Thanks and good luck!

I find this paragraph confusing. You ask, and cc the committee to vote,
but then SLOBs vote, which then you accept as valid. I accept as valid as
well, but, nevertheless, I'm not sure this was your intention.

My intention was to cut through the red tape and get Samson onto the
committee. I don't believe the vote was necessary, but since you were
insistent that our by laws required it, I proceeded down that path. I hope
to clear up any ambiguity in our by laws at the next meeting (1 June).
