Re: Cray Research 1984 Sun Dial

2012-04-26 Thread Bill Gottesman

I own one, from ebay.  It is unique in that the numerals are in
binary.  There are many chinese characters on the dial face, but I
do not know what they mean.  I have photos if any one wants a stab
at deciphering them.

I got a clock or two over the years but never a sundial.

  I've never worked for Cray.
Anyone familiar with this piece of Cray culture?

Re: BSS website

2012-04-26 Thread Frank King
Dear Roger et al,

You are right that the BSS website is down
at the moment. This has been confirmed as
a problem with the server at the ISP and it
is not just the BSS site that is suffering.

My apologies to all who are inconvenienced.
It seems this is a challenging problem to fix.

BSS website

2012-04-26 Thread Granny Arby
I am having difficulty accessing the BSS website
http://www.sundialsoc.org.uk/ Is it my wifi connection in a hotel in Mallorca
or some other problem. Everry other website I tried connected easily but not
any of the ways I tried to connect to the BSS. I am interested in a formula in
the glossery, one that allows me to calculate altitude given latitude
declination and azimuth. This is to look at solstice alignments of the rose
windows in the cathedral in Palma, oriented at about 124 degrees.
