Hello,

Thank you very much for all your help. I really do appreciate the time you have
taken to respond to my query.
I am new to the world of sundials and I would definitely be doing lots of
research on them. Thanks for the books you recommended too.

Hurray to Gianni for figuring out which instrument Ms. Kumahs was inquiring
about! Nice transcription and explanation for those who are unfamiliar
 with it!

Sundial at Santa Maria Novella Florence

2004-09-03 Thread dkumah

Hello,

My name is Divine Kumah and I am a Physics major at the University of Michigan.
A friend of mine recently visited Florence and took pictures of the sundial at
the Santa Maria Novella Cathedral in Florence, Italy.
I believe it was constructed by Leon Battista Alberti.
Inscribed on the sundial are the numbers:
46. 57. 39. 50.
23. 28. 48. 55.

We originally thought they represented the geographic cordinates of the
cordinates, but unfortunately, they do not match the cordinates for Florence.

I would be very grateful if anyone can help us solve this little mystery.

Thank you very much,

Divine Kumah
