[freenet-support] help with freenet

2001-06-08 Thread Bryan Harris

My configuration:
Freenet version: 3.9.1-2
Java: c:\program files\javasoft\jre\1.3\bin\javaw.exe
windows: Windows 2000 SP2
cpu: Pentium 3
Speed: 300mhz
Ram: 192
Disk: 10GB
Free: 7 or 8GB
Other Programs: MS Office, 2 weeks old install of system
Firewall: Yes but I don't know which one
Connection: LAN card
Proxy: No
System is stable: only 2 weeks old
Read Help? Yes I have

My Situation:
I can upload keys and then go and download the ones I just uploaded, but
I can't seem to get these same keys if I delete the .freenet directory.
I can't download anything out there except what I just put out there.

Here is an error that looked important:
State "TRANSFERRING" reached.
TransferStartedEvent:Normal:Transfer of 98 bytes started.
EventInputStream$TransferedEvent:Normal:80 bytes read.
SegmentCompleteEvent:Normal:Transfer of one segment to a temporary file
completed.
. then one more just like the last one..
RequestCompleteEvent:Normal:Transfer to temporary files completed.
ReceiveEvent:Normal:A message was received from tcp/localhost:40686.
StateReachedEvent:Normal:State "DONE" reached.
StateReachedEvent:Normal:State "PREPARED" reached.
StateReachedEvent:Normal:State "REQUESTING" reached.
SendEvent:Normal:A message was sent to tcp/localhost:40686.
RestartedEvent:Normal:The query was restarted somewhere on Freenet after
a node failed to reply, waiting another 192 seconds before I give up
ReceiveEvent:Normal:A message was received from tcp/localhost:40686.
RequestFailedEvent:Normal:The request was unsuccessful.
Src:tcp/127.0.0.1:40686 htl:37 depth:6 id:632ed036244de4ce
type:Freenet.message.TimedOut was received
StateReachedEvent:Normal:State "FAILED" reached.

This is what the log generated when I tried to download a key that I had
previously uploaded.

I don't know if this is a good enough format, but thanks guys.

Yeh, I know about that one. It was a 0.3.9.1-2 special (and actually my
fault, I think). Yeh, the fix for that one is also in there, don't worry!
(Fix was to correct the goof that made 0.3.9.1-2 so 'special' ! :-)
Freenet.exe uses javaw.exe by default, but if that isn't present it falls
back to using java.exe . The problem was that a recent (? or
not-so-recent?) change to freenet.exe meant that, if it ran javaw.exe, it
would call the WaitForInputIdle() API ...
Unfortunately, for reasons best known to Sun, calling the WaitForInputIdle()
API on javaw.exe always causes the application to hang! (well, duh, well
done Sun). So we took out the call to the WaitForInputIdle() function (it
wasn't needed anyway). And now it all works a treat, with both javaw.exe
(i.e. javaw=) and java.exe (i.e. Javaexec=).

Cheers,
Dave

I want to make sure you know about this one which I encountered today:

The freenet.ini file may be generated with both a Javaexec= line and a
javaw= line.  If they're both uncommented, starting freenet.exe doesn't
work. Commenting out javaw=... makes it work.

Win95, Sun JRE 1.3.1, freenet Windows installer 0.3.9.1-2.

Re: [freenet-support] help

2001-06-08 Thread Dave Hooper

In the next couple of days we are hoping to put together a new freenet
installer that FIXES all known issues with the windows Freenet.exe ('white
rabbit' systray icon) application, including (but not limited to) the
following:

o Rabbit icon sometimes 'locks up' and you can't get the popup menu to
appear
o 'Configure' doesn't work
o Spaces in filenames don't work
o Restarting freenet sometimes leaves it in a 'Freenet Having Problems'
state

And a bunch of others besides. This should make freenet on Windows a easier
thing to use (and debug!) as any outstanding issues can then be tracked down
as either
o Freenet java problems
o Installer problems
o Network (e.g. firewall) problems

[freenet-support] Bandwidth limitation

2001-06-08 Thread Ruediger Klaehn

Hi,

me and a friend have rented a dedicated server, and we would like to run a
freenet node on that server. The problem is that we have only 5 gigabytes per
month free traffic, and each additional gigabyte would cost us about $12.

So we need some way to limit the bandwidth *per month* to whatever we have to
spare that month. I saw that there is a way to limit the bandwith per second,
but if we want to permit, say, 2 gigabytes per month this comes out as only
771.6 bytes per second, which is obviously not very useful.

Is there a way to configure freenet so that bursts are possible, but average
bandwith still stays below a certain limit? If this feature is not available,
you should implement it. Otherwise many people won't be able to run a freenet
node on their server.

Another question: Which implementation of freenet would be best for usage on
a server? Obviously we do not want the freenet node to consume a lot of
memory and/or processor power.

regards,

Rüdiger Klaehn

RE: [freenet-support] help

2001-06-08 Thread tech

There
are a lot of answer to this problem on the mailing list...
So
most people thought you might check there first.

(http://freenetproject.org ->
Mailing lists )I am sure that is the reason you received no
answer eailer.
(But
for the website, you probably should state in the download
page
a
brief history/news about such "major" problem having being
fixed.)

Do one
or both of the following:
(1)
Download the newer 0.3.9.1.2
(2) Do
not put spaces in your install path of java or freenet
