Re: [freenet-support] Help, please.
I have just started a new node on my SuSE box without any problems. 1) Download tarball. 2) gunzip/tar -vxf 3) cd freenet 4) ./preconfig.sh 5) edit freenet.conf (add ipAddress, and storeSize) 6) forward the freenet listen port on my NAT box 7) ./update.sh 8) ftp over a seed nodes file from another machine 9) ./start-freenet.sh Note: If you're not running behind a NAT box or firewall, you can skip step 6. You can most likely skip step 5 too, unless you want a larger datastore (which you should do, I use storeSize=4096M). Last I heard there was some issues with default seednodes, so step 8 may be the key with a new install at the moment. I don't know of a graceful way to getting a fresh seednodes file at the moment tho. > > From: Michael <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 2004/01/01 Thu AM 11:31:33 CST > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > CC: MeVerizon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [freenet-support] Help, please. > > I have installed Freenet on my SuSE system. Re: Re: [freenet-support] How to update on a Windows machine??
That just re-runs the webinstall program, which gives me an error about overwriting the webinstall file, or something like that. I had tried that before, but always stopped at the error. The prompts were also for "Install" instead of "Update". I just pressed Ignore this time, and it seemed to update the .jar file just fine. My datastore seems to still be intact. I was worried it would do a real install as the prompts were indicating, and wipe out my node's existing data. Maybe something got botched on my original install that screwed up the update process, but it's not very graceful on my machine. It seemed to work, tho. [freenet-support] How to update on a Windows machine??
Things don't seem to be as straight forward on a windows machine. For linux update, I just ran update.sh. What the heck to do I do to update on a windows machine? Sorry for the dumb question, but I can't find any simple documentation or user's guides either. ___ Support mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support
Re: [freenet-support] Geographical distribution of Freenet
Yeah.. wonder if the RIAA or LEA's have any freenet farms for connection analysis.. think they'd register?? Hey! they may already have some good stats. Think they'd share? hehe.. > > From: "Garb" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 2003/12/30 Tue PM 01:11:32 CST > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [freenet-support] Geographical distribution of Freenet > > Is anything known about Freenet's geographical distribution? Like, are there more nodes in the US than in Europe? What country has the highest number of nodes? How large is Freenet actually? In Tbytes as well as number of nodes. Stuff like that. In this context I have a suggestion to the maintainer of the WEB-site. Why not include some sort of “voluntary registration” on the site where people can – if they want - give a few details about their system. Like where in the world they are located, type of connection (permanent or transient), size of storage, time since first install, version running. Nothing to compromise anonymity – just an option for the developers to gauge their success and make a few statistics. [freenet-support] how do I turn this dern thing off
I've been running Freenet on my linux box for quite a while, with no problems. I decided to try it out on my window's machine. All was going well, and working fine, until I went to stop it. With Linux I was able to execute stop-freenet.sh, but I couldn't figure out how to gracefully kill it on my window's box?!? Am I just a moron? Did I miss something? ___ Support mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support
[freenet-support] huge storeSize/key expiration
I've got a nice new machine that I built, and I'm willing to share it with freenet. I set my storeSize to 10G, but I've noticed that freenet seems to automatically delete data from time to time. I'm not a freenet expert and I don't completely understand it's architecture, but I'm wondering why it's deleting data when it's nowhere near the size I've alocated for the store. I guess I'm just asking how can I best get my node to utilized the resources I'm giving it. ___ Support mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support
[freenet-support] multiple nodes inside a NAT network??
Just curious as to the logistics of multiple nodes behind a NAT'ed firewall. I can have each of them have different listen ports and forward the ports to the correct node, but what will nodes outside the network think of multiple nodes to the same IP? Will the nodes in the network learn to talk to each other dirrectly? Will there be any proformance impact? Thanks! ___ Support mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support
