OM2008.12 audio problems during call

2009-02-03 Thread casaubon

Hi, all -

The sound, both incoming and outgoing, is completely absent when making and
receiving calls. The problem seems similar to those posted here:
http://lists.openmoko.org/nabble.html#nabble-td2105924
and here:
http://lists.openmoko.org/nabble.html#nabble-td2205700
but I am not able to restore the sound (even briefly) after a reboot. I am
using the python volume control and have noticed some strange behavior. When
I set the output slider on the handset, headset, etc. . . to 100 and then
make a call, the slider is subsequently reset to 0. I can't find any
documentation on the pymixer.py app. Does the output control mute the
phone when set to 0?

I am not expert on this, but is the audio changing to a different, silent
state when a call comes in or goes out?

just restore those .state files from whatever package they come from
(don't recall) -- I git the same issue with that mixer -- better never
click 'save' on the first tab ;)

Thank you, Mr. Halchenko. I think this is what has happened.

Just to be sure, the .state files I need to replace are:
gsmhandset.state
gsmheadset.state
gsmspeakerout.state
correct? Does anyone know where I can find the original 2008.12 versions of
these?

I remember a ppp start script with a 'ifdown usb0' as first action -
or was it wlan? Maybe something similar is interfering on your system.

For a few days sound was broken in the 2.6.29 kernels due to changes in
Alsa there, but it's fixed yesterday.

If it's the problem, alsactl restore -f
some-distributed-and-not-stored-to.state will blow an error on the
commandline about missing mixer element or somesuch.

[FSO] Wifi in M5 no longer functioning

2009-02-03 Thread Dylan Semler
It seems that my prior FSO wifi configuration no longer works with M5.

I'm using WPA2 configured as follows:

# cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/cat wpa_supplicant.conf

   proto=RSN
   key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
   pairwise=CCMP TKIP
   group=TKIP CCMP
   psk=private
   priority=50
}

And I've added the line: wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
beneith the line iface eth0 inet dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces.

This configuration has worked for all other distributions thus far. Is
something different this time around?

I guess I did not. Now I run

r...@om-gta02:~# mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.ousaged
/org/freesmartphone/Usage org.freesmartphone.Usage.RequestResource WiFi
r...@om-gta02:~# mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.ousaged
/org/freesmartphone/Usage org.freesmartphone.Usage.GetResourceState WiFi
False
r...@om-gta02:~#

After RequestResource WiFi, the freerunner shows up on my router's list of
connected wifi devices. Does RequestResource not only turn on the radio,
but also try to connect (and thus, ifup eth0 would not be necessary)? If it
does it must be failing in my case.

Re: Distro?

2009-02-03 Thread Seth Rothenberg
Thanks.
I actually hope to get wifi working,
since wifi here is more likely to be
evidence that wifi will work in
Israel, while gprs may be harder.

I also didn't see how to turn on
the GPS antenna in SHR.
I recall seeing it on Settings screen
in an earlier distro.

I downloaded all the maps for
my neighborhood, but tangogps
won't come out of this mode where
I scroll to the desired place.

Since it looks like I'll be on SHR,
I subscribed to that specific list.

Thanks

Re: Distro?

2009-02-03 Thread Seth Rothenberg
Another follow-on question.
It appears that the phone I am using now
does not have the capacitor fix.

I have 2 questions:
1. is the software patch available for
various distros, eg, SHR?
2. Is the hardware fix documented
for DIY?

The phone I have that was able to get a fix...
it seems to have a microscopic solder joint
between the 3rd and 4th pins from the bottom
on the SD slot. (there could be a cap in there :-)

The phone I am trying to work with...
does not have this solder work.
