first: sry for my late reply.

second:
short: delete /etc/panel-plugin.conf

long: cleanup /etc/panel-plugin.conf
in config-dialog changed values are stored in ~/.panel-pluginrc.
when turning off some of these the lines are removed from ~/.panel-
pluginrc
but could get an 'overide' by the previously read /etc/panel-
plugin.conf if they occure there

(in the mentioned src-tarball accidently my own .panel-pluginrc
slipped in as /etc/panel-plugin.conf)

After reflashing my kernel and the 2008.12 the issues are still there, right
now I am stuck with a $400 dollar brick any thing I need to do to fix this
or help fix this if one of my issues is a known bug?

Especially on the GTA01 with only 16 byte serial port buffers you may
want to upgrade to the moko11 firmware to fix some problems with serial port
overruns (bug 2180) due to hardware flow control not being used:

https://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/2180#comment:20
https://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/openmoko-kernel/2009-February/008648.html

Also fixed is resume on call during first suspend (bug 2231):

I'd suggest two things: 1) flash the phone, again, to 2008.9; then give the
FDOM a shot.

The text entry issues you note sound exactly like my learning curve on
illume -- if you haven't already looked here, check
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Illume#How_to_use_.28Raster.27s.29_keyboard.3F
for more info about how to use it. FDOM includes a kb switcher that will
give you a full keyboard (with up and down and CTRL, etc.).

2009-02-22 Thread joris_vl
Hey guys,

Ok. I upgraded from 2008.9 to 2008.12. Issues on the 2008.9:
- unable to join ANY WiFi networks although it did detect them under
Settings-WiFi.
- unable to get on the internet through usb networking although it was possible
to ssh into root. I followed the usb networking guide on the wiki, more
specifically for Ubuntu 8.10. (Error message after attempting e.g. opkg install
openmoko-terminal2: 'An error occured: return value:2.')

After flashing on the 2008.12 image (kernel + rootfs):
- There no longer is a WiFi entry under the settings menu!
- unable to access the internet through usb networking. ssh into root still
works as before. Error message when attempting opkg install has changed into:
'Could not obtain administrative lock' (although once I got the 'An error
occured: return value:2.' again which I was not able to reproduce).

Is this a hardware problem or am I just being thick?

Thanks for any illuminations on this topic!

[2008.testing] WSOD

2009-02-22 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
My FR suffers from the buzzing problem, and so I got a friend of mine
who does that sort of soldering every day as part of his job to do the
big-C fix, and whilst he was at it, the SD/GPS fix.

Ever since the fixes were done, my FR gets the WSOD, i.e. on resume,
the screen goes white, and then fades to black, starting in the
middle. Without the SD card, the white screen take much longer to
fade, and then to vertical light grey stripes of various widths, a bit
like a faded barcode.

I assume that the big-C fix can have nothing to do with this, but I
wondered if the SD/GPS fix could. Removing the 10pF cap, however made
no difference, I still never get the FR to come out of resume
properly.

The only other thing I did around the same time was to replace uBoot with Qi.

To see if a more recent kernel would make a difference, I flashed
uImage-2.6.28-oe1+gitr34240a1c06ae36180dee695aa25bbae869b2aa26-r3-om-gta02.bin,
but resume problems remain.

Any ideas what I can do to sort this out?

Regards

Jeff

It's in the Wiki somewhere: Missing or incorrect /etc/resolv.conf. Look
at the one on your desktop computer. Also try these two commands:

$ ping -c 3 88.198.124.202
Failure means routing/NAT problem.

$ ping -c 3 www.openmoko.com
Failure means DNS problem (assuming the first one worked).

i think that means the package can't be found

> After flashing on the 2008.12 image (kernel + rootfs):

it didn't work properly. try installing the 'services' package from
opkg.org, and 'lint' to manage your connections

could not obtain admin lock, means you have recently been using the
gui for package management, and now cannot use opkg on the
command-line to install packages, until the lock has been removed (to
stop you using both at the same time, which would be bad)

wait a few minutes, and the lock will be removed, then try again.

Reflashing it now, and I'll look into FDOM, the idea of a keyboard switcher
with a full keyboard is great, makes me wonder why the OM 2008 comes with a
limited keyboard as default?
