[2008.08] dbus-daemon is using lot of CPU...

2008-09-09 Thread François TOURDE
Hi,

On my FreeRunner, running Om2008.8 and with a opkg upgrade on 8
september, the dbus-daemon is power/cpu consuming.

Top say:

 1442 root  20   0 10768   636 S 16.3  7.2  63:37.36 dbus-daemon
 1481 root  20   0 48588  39m 5820 S  6.3 32.4  31:53.40 enlightenment

ps say:
root  1442  9.6  7.2  10900  8932 ?Ss   00:39  64:57
/usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 4 --print-address 6 --session

Any hint for this issue ? I'll put it on Trac after the next opkg
upgrade, if needed.

 In 4.4 yes.

 You're making us dreaming every time more :P
 The waiting is trying :D

Instead of waiting, you can try this prog:

Or this one:

2008-09-05 Thread François TOURDE
Hi,

Sometimes, launching the Qtopia media player result in no sound
played and progress bar stay at 0.00 ... Any idea ? (reboot/restart
X/suspend-resume are not revelant).

I also have some difficulties with the GUI of the app... Vol+/Vol-,
Next/Prev, etc... Am I alone with this issue?

 Do you have group information inside your VCF? If not, you should try
 that first...

Ok, but how and where should I insert group infos on my VCF ? Google
doesn't help me, and I can't find docs about qtopia address book :(

Any help appreciated ;)

 I updated to today's stable packages (after noticing quite a lot of merges

 I tried to apply the hacks described at
 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Keyboard_Debate#How_to_install_the_illume_.28Raster.27s.29_keyboard_.3F
 (more or less), and noticed that now, only the 'asu' default profile
 seems to bring the 2008.8 theme, and setting it as 'illum' (echo
 'E_PROFILE=-profile illume'  /etc/enlightenment/default_profile)
 will switch to classical enlightenment desktop like theme, menus,
 etc.

 I also had this issue when I upgraded today.

Me too, like others I imagine ;)

 I think the http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Keyboard_Debate should be
 updated, but I'm not so sure something ain't broken in the current
 stable updates :-/

 Yes, I think there is actually something broken. When I did opkg files
 illume-config-illume after the upgrade, it showed that this package was
 actually empty, just like several of the other illume packages
 (illume-keyboard-*). Doing an opkg install with the URL of the
 packages in the testing feed didn't seem to work either, I had to
 download the ipk's from the testing feed, put their md5sums into the
 packages list in /var/lib/opkg/daily-all and opkg install *.ipk. That
 did it for me.

I do a

opkg -force-depends purge illume-strange packet
opkg install illume-strange packet

for each packets, then modified /etc/enlightenment/default_profile and
finally restarted X. Everything is correct now.

HTH.

 Also try scanning /opt/Qtopia/bin/addressbook (or some Qtopia libs)
 for recognizable strings... maybe you can find the right vCard tag
 this way.

Argh, I've missed this way ;) ... But unfortunately, nothing really
helpfull.

You forget the last step :)

 Dear all ,

 2 i need to know exactly what each element of alsamixer doing ?

 I wrote a shell script which tells you which state is currently loaded,
 using this you can figure out what each state file is for:

May I suggest a small update to your script, to check if multiple
files are matching current alsa status?

 #!/bin/sh
 CS=/tmp/current.state
 alsactl -f $CS store
 Match=0
 for F in `ls /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/*.state`; do
 #echo Comparing with $F
 if [ `diff $CS $F` =  ]; then
 echo Current statefile is:  $F
 Match=1
 fi
 done;
 [ $Match == 0 ]  echo Current state matches no file!

Anyway, this script is usefull when trying to check what's up with the
sound, and that jack insertion do nothing on sound :(

 Greg,
 If you don't set a root password anyone will be able to log onto your
 phone if they can reach it on the network. I don't think there are any
 downsides to setting a password (I did) passwd should do the trick.

Maybe a ssh key is a good alternative. I know nothing about dropbear
(And I've not yet received my FR), but a key is harder than a simple
text password, isn't it ?
