GTA01 - Can't boot from SD
Hi, I've installed Qi on a GTA01 and I can't boot from SD. The SD card has two ext2 partitions, the first one has the following files: r...@om-gta01:/# ls -ltrR .: drwx--2 root root12288 Dec 17 01:09 lost+found -rw-r--r--1 root root 140 Dec 17 02:13 version -rw-r--r--1 root root 1912564 Dec 17 02:13 uImage.bin drwxr-xr-x2 root root 1024 Dec 17 02:27 boot ./lost+found: ./boot: lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 13 Dec 17 02:27 uImage-GTA01.bin -> ../uImage.bin -rw-r--r--1 root root 44 Dec 17 02:27 append-GTA01 The append-GTA01 file contains the line: root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 console=tty0 loglevel=8 On boot I can't see any log message, I only see: s3c2410_udc: debugfs dir creation failed -19 Please wait: booting... And the Neo boots from flash. It's like the SD is not detected, but then, when the Neo boots, its detected ok on boot: mmc_set_power(power_mode=2, vdd=20) s3c2410-sdi s3c2410-sdi: running at 16625kHz (requested: 25000kHz). mmc0: new SDHC card at address b368 mmcblk0: mmc0:b368 NCard 3905536KiB mmcblk0: p1 p2 JFFS2 notice: (968) check_node_data: wrong data CRC in data node at 0x03ce120c: read 0x688bb22f, calculated 0x53577bf2. GSM wakeup interrupt (IRQ 17) I tried booting from SD with uboot instead of Qi, and with only one partition on SD, with the same results. Qi version is: qi-s3c2410-master_a2d11c4dd18c9517.udfu Anybody knows what the problem is? best regards. -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... Re: Sad Story
Hi all, I'm quite impressed and dissapointed about what the mail I sent has caused. I could have not imagine it...I'm sorry. I would like to say what I think, trying not to reply or offend anyone so, please we can stop with this thread now, or at least this is my last mail. Open source is a matter of work, patience and hopes. When we bought an OM mobile, we knew that it was on the cutting edge of GPL mobile software technology. We could have a linux box in our pocket, integrating a music player, mobile phone, computer, etc, all in one. We were excited about all the posibilities it could have, and We wanted it to work well and now. But things are not so easy: design HW errors, difficulties in kernel development, problems with UI integration... As a result, we blame on the neighbour of all this, but that, in my opinion, is not they way to follow, every one has his part of responsibility. Everybody of us could help more instead of creating a feeling of tension in the air. It's true there are HW problems, maybe they will never get fixed in software and they'll need a HW repair, but this is an OM matter, and their decision will be important in future purchases of us. Soon or later all the work that is being made here by the community will be taken in advantage by others mobile manufacturers. It's a matter of OM to design good mobile phones if they want to be chosen by us in the near future. I'm sure they are putting their best efforts on it. Some of us are dissapointed with the actual OM mobile phones. This phones are pioneers, it's sad to say, but it's all what we get by now. So, if someone has no patience, no hopes and don't want to help us in this, I would advise him to sell the phone. Working on something without entusiasm will age you sooner. For all of you who hope some day to pick up your phone in a lift full of people and that the phone has battery on it or it doen't show de WSOD or whatever, stay here and try to help everybody in making better our phone. Everyone here, OM, kernel developers, etc, see the problems, but they don't need us to blame them, all they need of us is hopes, patience and work, no more. best regards. -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... Re: Sad Story
Hi, Because of my job I spend a lot of time abroad. Now I'm at Bogotá (Colombia). Although I could find or track the FR, I think it would be impossible to see it again, cause I don't know when I will come to Colombia again... Yesterday I went to the suburbs to the "steal tecnology market" (I don't recommend it) trying to find it, with no luck. I think I lost any hopes to see it again. best regards. Sad Story
Hi, Last night a burglar stole my FR. I was in a car, with the window opened, playing with the GPS and when we stopped at a traffic light, two guys came by the back. I was in the right side of the back seat, one of these guys knocked on the left window side, when I turned my head to the left to see what happened the other guy came by the right and picked up my FR from my hand. For some miliseconds my whole life with the FR came across my mind. I saw all the moments I spend configuring the phone, all the happyness my FR had bring to me when some functionality started to work, all the hours awaiting for a new realese of some software that implemented new functions... Then, I went out of the car and run behind those guys trying to catch them. I was in a kind of highway, I run and run, but they cross the highway to the other side, between cars going on very fast, and I had to leave it up. I returned to the car in a state of shock, I got into the car, with my girlfriend, and started to cry. I loved that phone. My phone had debian on it. I had a lot of applications configured. I used it like my main phone. Mail accounts configured, Phonebook with all contacts, a lot of sms, many applications configured with my users/passwds. And I realized they had access to all. I called the mobile phone company to suspend the number, I've changed almost all important passwds, anyway, although I think they even don't know how to use the FR, maybe they will sell it to someone that do, and he'll surf into my life. I only wanted to share this story with you. Maybe, because sharing my sadness I'll feel better, maybe not... best regards. -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... Hi, I didn't know it, so I asked. Someone reported the same problem. Try flashing the same kernel image that you'll install on debian and install debian from that. best regards El Tue, 09 Sep 2008 17:43:09 +0200 Matthias Barmeier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> dijo: > Hi, > > I know which version is installed. uname -a gives > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a > Linux fic-gta01 2.6.22.5-moko11 #1 PREEMPT Sat Dec 1 03:40:58 CET 2007 > armv4tl unknown > > I installDebianNeo.sh seem to be: > > KERNEL_IMAGE=http://downloads.openmoko.org/framework/milestone2/uImage-2.6.24+gitr0+7a1370a816b9348dd8f36a667905dd3533cefc9b-r4-om-gta01.bin > > Ciao >Matthias > > Juan Cañete schrieb: > > Hi, > > > > which kernel version are you installing debian from? > > which kernel version are you installing in debian? > > > > best regards. > > > > > > > > El Tue, 09 Sep 2008 16:11:28 +0200 > > Matthias Barmeier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> dijo: > > > > > >> Hi, > >> > >> when I try to install Debian on my neo1973 the install script terminates > >> with: > >> > >> > >> * Setting empty root password > >> I: System configured > >> I: Done with stage configuration > >> Running stage kernel > >> Installing kernel image and modules > >> * Dowloading kernel image > >> Connecting to downloads.openmoko.org[88.198.93.219]:80 > >> uImage.bin 100% > >> || 1758 KB > >> 00:00:00 ETA > >> * Downloading kernel modules > >> * Running depmod > >> WARNING: Couldn't open directory /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-moko11: No such > >> file or directory > >> FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-moko11/modules.dep.temp for > >> writing: No such file or directory > >> > >> > >> What can I do ? > >> > >> Ciao > >>Matthias > >> > >> > >> ___ > >> support mailing list > >> support@lists.openmoko.org > >> https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support > >> > > > > > > -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... Xscreensaver phylosophy
Hi, I can't lock the screen on a Neo1973 with Debian. This is what the FAQ of xscreensaver says: /*** When I'm logged in as root, xscreensaver won't lock my screen! Don't log in as root. Please note that xscreensaver works fine as a screen saver when you are logged in as root: it will not, however, lock your screen when you are logged in as root. This is for good and insurmountable security reasons. In order for it to be safe for xscreensaver to be launched by xdm, certain precautions had to be taken, among them that xscreensaver never runs as root. In particular, if it is launched as root (as xdm is likely to do), xscreensaver will disavow its privileges, and switch itself to a safe user id (such as "nobody".) An implication of this is that if you log in as root on the console, xscreensaver will refuse to lock the screen (because it can't tell the difference between root being logged in on the console, and a normal user being logged in on the console but xscreensaver having been launched by the xdm "Xsetup" file.) The solution to this is simple: you shouldn't be logging in on the console as root in the first place! (What, are you crazy or something?) Proper Unix hygiene dictates that you should log in as yourself, and su to root as necessary. People who spend their day logged in as root are just begging for disaster. ***/ I don't use XDM nor any display manager, don't want a display manager eating resources and don't want to write to log in (and don't know how to write). Anybody has a solution to this, excluding the "Don't log in as root" ? Best regards -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... NFS under Debian
Hi, I can't mount NFS partitions under Debian on my Neo... They get mounted but I cannot read them. I think the problem is because of the propietary of the partition. Partitions get mounted under the UID of the propietary of the server's user. This is the file /etc/exports in the server(mrbones): [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/exports /home/juan62/musica gagarin(ro) This is the entry in the /etc/fstab on the neo1973(gagarin): mrbones:/home/juan62/musica /musica nfs defaults,user,noauto0 0 After mounting the partition it mounts like this: drwx-- 13 1000 1000 4096 Aug 2 20:59 musica the UID 1000 is the one of the user juan62, the propietary of that directory on the server. When I get into the partition mounted on the neo I get this: gagarin:/# cd musica gagarin:/musica# ls ls: reading directory .: Input/output error gagarin:/musica# mount | grep musica mrbones:/home/juan62/musica on /musica type nfs (rw,user=root,noexec,nosuid,nodev,addr=192.168.0.200) Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? best regards. -- Juan Cañete Azorín hiroshima 45, Tchernobyl 86, Windows 95 ... Re: Debian-how to login without keyboard?
Hi, I don't use gdm nor any display manager, I directly load xfce from the /etc/init.d/zhone-session script, setting PROG_FSO=/usr/bin/xfce4-session and then autoloading zhone at startup. Debian on Neo1973
Hi, for all of you who want to try Debian on a Neo1973, I created a wiki page [1] explaining the proccess. It's based on the wiki for installing Debian on FreeRunner [2]. I only can say about Debian on Neo that rocks. The wiki links to a script, installDebianOnNeo.sh, but this link goes to nowhere because I can't upload the script to any site and now I don't have a machine with public access. The script is a modification of the one offered for the installation of Debian on FreeRunner, created by Joachim Breitner and Luca Capello. I attach the script to this mail, so please, someone who can upload it, update the wiki. Maybe the wiki is quite confusing because of my poor english level, so you are free to correct it.
