2009-02-25 Thread Sumesh T A
Dear Peter
I have followed the tutorial for setting transparent firewall, but I could
not connected to WAN. I was able to ping WAN IP but nothing beyond that.

Should do I add static routes to WAN to get connected to Internet?

I am the only one to find this scary?

I was curious as to what CSED/NIT was.

Maybe pfsense is *too* easy for people to install?

Sumesh,

If you need a NAT router, then you should not be setting up a
transparent bridge. Unless you are having a strange network or
hardware issue, once you install or assign the NIC's to WAN and LAN,
you have a fully functioning firewall. Really no more configuration
is required if you don't want to.

2009-02-25 Thread Tim Nelson
If you can ping your WAN interface but cannot get out 'further' you'll want to
check your routing, specifically your default route on the WAN interface. Make
sure that your LAN and WAN also lie in different subnets.

Every network is a little different, but generally speaking pfSense is
one of the most trivial firewalls to set up: you plug it in, install
the software, put your LAN on the LAN interface and your WAN on the
WAN interface. After that, NAT "just works".
