input text area not resizable?

2008-04-03 Thread Hemal Pandya
In 2.4.0 pidgin automatically resizes the input text area in
conversation windows.

But it seems it is no longer possible to manually resize the input
text area? I often use pidgin for exchanging code fragments, and a
large text area is quite useful. Is there a way to get a large text
area?

Thanks for the quick response Sascha. Yes, 8 lines is better the 4 but
I would have still preferred being able to control manually.

I usually like to search archives before asking, but I could not find
a way to search the archives. Now I realize a search at
http://developer.pidgin.im/search would have given me the info I was
looking for. I will make sure I do that next time before asking.

It is not configurable, though in 2.4.1 the max height has changed from 4
to 8 lines, which should be enough for code fragments. Please also consider
reading the Mailinglist archive for this and the devel list. There has been
some big discussions about the issue. If you have anything new to contribute
to these discussion, please do so.

@Pidgin-devs: While writing this mail, I tested the new max height (Wanted
to check if it has a hardcoded line maximum or if a percentage value was
used). Therefore I resized my window to a small height and typed multiple
 lines. Result:
  - If there are only the last two lines are shown (minimal height of the
message window), the window itself grows to the bottom (changing the windows
 outer bound).
  - If you move the window to the bottom of your desktop, it grows out of
 the screen.

  Is this the desired behaviour?
I'm on Windows XP, Pidgin 2.4.1, GTK 2.12.8 RevA

  Greetings

SSL

2008-04-03 Thread Todd Rosenthal
I have a question about an older jabber server that my company runs. For
some reason it's not compatible with the newest version pf pidgin. It get's
an SSL handshake failure. It is compatible with the older version of Pidgin
2.3.1.

Is there a way (aside from updating the server which is out of my control)
to make the new version of pidgin work in this scenario?

Er... Have You been to www.jabber.org and created an Account with them?
All Pidgin can do is connect You to existing IM Service Accounts.

Pardon Me if this is an ignorant Question.

Re: input text area not resizable?

2008-04-03 Thread Craig Harding
There has been a plugin written that has been added to the trac. It
lets you manually resize the input text area on new conversation
windows once it is enabled in the Plugins List. (Manual Size Plugin).

Search for 'plugin entry' and it should show up in the query.

Craig.

The plugin is just a c file or windows dll file. I don't know what to
do with them, I am not a programmer. Plugin is useless for me and
developers don't want to include it in pidgin.

Someone has added the .so files and a .dll for windows people and has
typed the instructions on how to install. For Windows, the plugins
directory can be found under one of the directories listed here:

http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ConfigurationFiles

I assume you're running Windows.. You copy the .dll to the plugins
directory (in previous link), restart pidgin, and enable it in the
Plugins Menu.
