Re: do we need this list to be spammed by ubuntu's launchpad?

In general, letting people subscribed to a question know about updates to the linked bug report is a great idea, so no, it's not possible to disable these particular notices individually. I count about 20 in the past 24 hours for the same 'ticket' (37929): They were actually for the linked bug report, which is Bug #244591. This happened because there was a serious problem with multiple IM clients. Someone (reasonably) asked a question about the problem, which then (properly) got linked to the bug report. The bug report (properly) had task items for Pidgin Kopete (upstream, across all the supported versions of Ubuntu, and Debian) as well as Licq upstream. This is getting pretty close to a worst-case possible bug, ever. I suppose someone could have thrown in a couple more clients and tied them to RedHat bug reports as well or something. I'll stipulate that answer contacts for project X *probably* (which is to say they might in some cases) don't care about updates to the status of a task for project Y on a linked bug report, but it doesn't seem to me that it'd be worth it for the Launchpad developers to write special case code to deal with that when it's so rarely a problem. Yes, this was annoying. So were all the users asking about the problem (which is not unreasonable for them to do). When big issues happen, we get a lot of mail. The Launchpad ones were pretty easy to sort out. It's clear that the Launchpad e-mail bothers you in general. Why don't you just filter it out? Bug #244591 status changed in Ubuntu Gutsy pidgin: Fix Committed = Fix Released Status change explanation given by Martin Pitt: Copied to gutsy-updates. Pidgin won't connect to MSN network since yesterday
Subject: Pidgin won't connect to MSN network since yesterday Date: Tue Jul 1 05:59:35 EDT 2008 Hi! I'm having trouble to connect to the MSN network using Pidgin 2.3.1. I had no problem before yesterday. Since then I did not update anything, did nothing to my system, but Pidgin won't connect. I recieve Unable to connet Unable to authenticate messages. I can sign on using http://mobile.live.com/pocketpc so my msn account should be OK. Hi, Just read that on the list archives: http://pidgin.im/pipermail/support/2008-July/001514.html Apparently I have that problem for Pidgin 2.2.2 on FreeBSD 7.0. Pidgin can not connect to MSN network, returns error message: --- cut Unable to authenticate: Unable to connect Pidgin will not attempt to reconnect the account until you correct the error and re-enable the account. --- cut I will try to update to 2.4.3 since it worked fine with MSN network on a Windows XP I have used yesterday. Is there anyone on this list running Pidgin 2.4.3 on FreeBSD, how did you install, packages or ports? Luiz ___ Support mailing list Support@pidgin.im http://pidgin.im/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support

Re: Pidgin won't connect to MSN network since yesterday
Oh, I think we ran into this problem a few months ago when the jabber.org certificate changed. I think someone (maybe Stu?) fixed our code. So you shouldn't run into this problem with newer versions of Pidgin. Re: Pidgin MSI
Hirakim Hirakim wrote: Would it be possible to get a Pidgin Version as an MSI file to deploy it in an Corporate Environment ? Thank You in Advance We've answered this on numerous occasions before. We see no need for an MSI package. The NSIS installer already provides quiet deployment functionality, and there are a number of tools in the wild to start installations remotely. The pstools suite has a tool designed to do just this; I have also seen vbscripts with the same functionality. There are also whole hosts of commercial products available for purchase whose sole purpose is Windows patch and software deployments, such as Shavlik HfNetChkPro. If these options don't appeal to you, we also provide a zip archive of each pidgin release. You can make an MSI package from the zip file, or just have a simple script that pushes out the updated pidgin files to each machine.
