Show ICQ nickname in buddy-list

2010-01-02 Thread Mads Lie Jensen
Hi

Just installed Pidgin 2.4.6 for windows.
Used Trillian 3.1 before.

When signing on to my MSN and ICQ-accounts, it correctly found all my
contacts and added those to my buddylist in pidging.

However, all icq-users are shown in the list as their UIN-number. I
would like to display the nicknames instead, but can't figure out how
to, short of manually editing the alias of all the contacts (which I
would prefer not to )

When I right-click a contact and select 'Get Info', I can see their
nickname is present in this info.

2010-01-02 Thread Caitlyn Lloyd

I have an HP laptop and I have pidgin on it. It had been working fine for
months but now it will not connect. I keep getting the message: Failed to
connect to server. We had changed internet companies but for awhile Pidgin was
fine but then it just stopped. Please help me.

Yes, SMS is supported, via the mechanisms in a number of the protocols.
AIM has supported SMS messages (sending IMs to +1 + ten-digit phone
number). Yahoo has supported something similar +countrycodephone
number (maybe that's the same? Not sure) since Pidgin 2.6.0.

You use the New Instant Message dialog, select a protocol that supports SMS
(like Yahoo, which you use), and enter +1countrycodephone number. IOW,
instead of sending an IM to darkrain42, you can IM +15105550100 to send a
text message to (510) 555-0100.

You probably meant to say that you use MSN. Microsoft don't support
open source clients. They changed the protocol. You need to install
Pidgin 2.6.4 to catch up.

If the problem is not with MSN, you are going to have to tell us more.

A better subject would have been: 'Failed to connect to server when
using MSN'.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

Um, it's not new.
http://www.aboutus.org/RocketMail.com

In 1997 RocketMail was acquired by Yahoo!. Customers were able to keep
the @rocketmail.com in their email addresses, although an
@rocketmail.com address was not an option for people signing up for a
new email account at Yahoo.com from 1997 until June of 2008. New email
accounts from Yahoo! can now be @yahoo.com, @ymail.com, or @rocketmail.com.

I imagine that your @rocketmail.com address will work fine with the
Yahoo protocol.
