Better than a announce list, IMHO. :)

Really? And how can potential users and folks who wait for 2.6.5 because
they can't use 2.6.4 for whatever reason will get to know about this new
version?

2010-01-12 Thread John W. Moore III
Since Upgrading to 2.6.5 I am again having to 'accept' the Google

Is there any particular reason why this annoyance has been re-introduced?

bonjour on pidgin

2010-01-12 Thread Sandeep Kumar

Hi All,
I am running pidgin 2.5.2.fc8 and 2.5.5.fc11 on another machine. But no
buddies are showing up for bonjour protocol.

Both machines have Avahi daemon running on them.
With a windows machine running pidgin, the windows machine did find the
linux machine but the linux machine did not.
I saw libpurple-bonjour for fc versions =7. Do we need any patches for
running on FC8 and 11?

Yes, you want the Release Notification plugin. It can be found in
the Plugin Pack downloadable from here:

if you don't have it already.

Does that actually update or just notifiy about available updates?

It notifies you and when the button is clicked takes you to the Pidgin

GTK+ version flagged as insecure

2010-01-12 Thread Murray Weismer
Hi,

For about the last two weeks, Secunia Personal Software Inspector is
flagging my version of GTK+ as being insecure. My version is 2.14.7.0. I was
hoping that Pidgin 2.6.5 would have the newest GTK+, but that was not to be.
Will this be addressed in 2.6.6, or are there instructions to manually
update GTK+ to the latest version? Running Win32

Thanks

You'll be on your own with Fedora 6, it's way beyond it's end of life
so there will be no official packages with later gstreamer.

In complete agreement. This was a problem I was looking forward to
seeing solved in 2.6.5 (I know people who use GTalk and I'd like to be
able to help them through these issues if they are encountered). Telling
people to revert back to 2.6.4 is not a good solution.

Sorry, Daniel, meant to send that to the list.

The issue apparently occurs only when the Google Certificate is

for both GTalk via a Gmail Account and again for a GTalk Account through
a Google Apps Domain.

If you're manually specifying the connect server (in the Advanced
tab of your XMPP account settings) (which shouldn't be necessary if
the Google Apps domain's DNS is configured correctly and your local
DNS deals with SRV lookups), that is likely the cause.

Re: help

2010-01-12 Thread s2teennovelist

I'm confused by this answer. I have Pidgin as my instant messanger with
compatibility form AOL, but when i use AIM express my account works fine. I
tried going to the link but nothing comes up. I don't know what a Debut log is
but the Server for Pidgin when this happens is: login.messaging.aol.com

I'm unsure what to ask of Support Request because I'm unsure how to fix the
key features of the problem mentioned.
I have tried clicking the link the unexpected response came from but everytime
i go to it, I get a blank page. If the problem is with AOL then, how can i fix
this problem so i can still use Pidgin?
I'm confused how to fix the problem.

There is no such thing as a Pidgin account; you are having problems with an AOL
Instant Messenger account. What happens if you use the official AOL client.
What is in the Pidgin debug log when this happens.

it says my penname has been disabled and every time i try and re-enable it,

Note that support requests should summarise the key features of the problem.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

Pidgin account disabled

2010-01-12 Thread Jamey Newberg
Today when I tried signing on, I got this error message at the bottom of the
buddy list window:

Received unexpected response from
http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession

Above that, it has a red icon with a minus sign in it, next to which it says
disabled.

I've tried several things to debug this or start over, to no avail.

What do I need to do to get Pidgin working again?

yesterday it was fine, so maybe it's some change on the server?

That worked, thanks. I didn't even think of changing the SSL settings,
even when I saw the problem was with tls. Duh.
