2010-03-16 Thread Saira Shabbir
Please guide me as to how can I get a gradient font in pidgin (the latest

Uncheck use client login in the configuration tab of your AIM Account.

Pidgin problems.

2010-03-16 Thread Soul Quenching

Hello,
Every time I go to start Pidgin, I immediately get a Pidgin has stopped
working alert. I've rebooted a few times and still no luck. Last night I
downloaded the latest version of Pidgin, hoping it would correct it... no help.
I've used Pidgin on this computer for nearly a year without any problems and
haven't made any major changes lately that would cause a conflict. How can I
fix this without uninstalling and redownloading Pidgin again? I don't want to
lose my settings, chat logs, etc. Thanks, I appreciate your help.
PS: I can't find where on my computer the chat logs are stored. Since I can't
load/run Pidgin, I can't locate them through it. Where are they stored on the
computer? Thanks again.

Preconfigured Install

2010-03-16 Thread zeeman79

Has anyone automated the install so that it is already configured to your
jabber server? The user only needs to open up the Pidgin icon and login.
This way I don't have to visit each and every user. I already have an
install script ready to go, but would love to get a way to preconfigure as
well.

Thanks in advance

How are these people knowing to go to the Pidgin website and download

Make a script to copy over accounts.xml from a location on the server to
the users .purple directory would be my guess unless someone knows
another way.

Lack of notification when a contact signs off

2010-03-16 Thread Sean Parmelee
I find it incredibly frustrating that when I have been talking to
someone over AIM in pidgin, and that person signs off (expectedly or
otherwise), I receive no notification whatsoever. Nothing appears in the
person's chat window, and worse, I can still send IMs freely just as if
the person were still online. Why on earth is this what pidgin does? I
have used other chat clients and all of them have provided me with
notifications about changes to contacts' status.

Tools, Plugins, enable the Buddy State Notification, and perhaps
uncheck Offline Message Emulation (this should then tell you the user is
offline if you try to send a message anyway).

That won't have an effect for AIM, for which Pidgin has supported
offline messages since 2.4.0 (two years ago). That your chat partner
cannot see them speaks to either a server issue or a bug in the remote
client (retrieval was broken in Pidgin 2.6.3, but fixed in 2.6.4, for
instance).

Reinstalling does not impact your settings (which are stored in the
%APPDATA%\.purple folder on Windows).

In any event, reinstalling without wiping out your settings is not
likely to resolve the crash.

Follow the directions at
http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/TipsForBugReports#WindowsUsers to get a
crash report and send that back; it will provide more information about
why Pidgin is crashing.

It should be possible to implement something based on that for your purposes.

A plugin could be written to do this, but I'm not aware of any existing plugins.

No kidding. I strip /all/ incoming formatting and apply no formatting
aside from the defaults on out-going. I find it annoying (and I would be
more then likely to block someone who messaged me in a rainbow of
