Uninformative message for XMMP login failure
my_n...@jabber.org/Home disconnected Invalid authzid This is what pidgin printed when I tried to login to my XMPP account. It turnes out, the account has expired. The message is very uninformative. First I suspected server problems (see the gtalk DNS SRV problem discussed here recently). Issue 2: When I dismiss the error message by clicking X, the account is still marked as active by Pidgin. Should it be inactive? If I unckeck it in the Account window, nothing happens. If I recheck it, it tries to login again. Looks like it was diabled, only the GUI was showing bad. Issue 3: selecting the login error message with the mouse, then pressing ctrl-c pops up the Join cgat dialog instead of copying the text, like 99% of the ofther software in the world. OTR is another possibility, it offers plausible deniability. http://www.cypherpunks.ca/otr/ offers more information, if you're using Windows or Linux then Pidgin supports it via plugins. -- Brian Morrison ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Disable Rollover Contact Details in Buddy list window
Hello, I am using version 2.7.9 on Windows 7. There is a feature where if you mouse over a contact in the buddy list a window pops up and shows the contacts details. I would like to disable this feature. Does anyone know how I can go about accomplishing that? Here is a link to a screen shot of the window. http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5663/rolloverdetails.jpg Thanks! (Quebec Government) We use pidgin 2.7.9 (french) I must change the page where the "Help menu" (F1) point. I tried to modify the pidgin.dll file. In the past (version 2.5.1), I made a home Wiki in french and change the F1 link in this dll file. In the 2.7.9 version, in the pidgin.dll, the link seems to be used differently. I found the link and change it but it does not work. It continu to point at the same place. Except for this link By default, the link is "http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/FAQ"; I must change that for "http://qcpopf01/pidgin/doc.htm"; How can I change this link. Thanks in advance ! I think that's more accurate that not. I think logins for AIM, Facebook, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo are all either encrypted with SSL/TLS or use some sort of digest such that your password is not sent in the clear. Full encryption of all data should happen for Google Talk and also maybe for AIM/ICQ (see the settings on the Advanced tab when changing the settings for your IM account). > Aside from some great effort that casual/novice users are unlike to make, > things such as SILC is the only option? I guess I should point out that if you're concerned about ISPs being forced to log IMs, the encryption you're asking about probably isn't going to help you much. The encryption discussed above only deals with encrypting traffic from your computer to the IM provider. At which point the IM provider can log your IMs all day long. If you want your communication to be private then you need an end-to-end encryption solution, like OTR. > [The republicans in congress are soon proposing that ISPs be required to > retain 2 years of logs for all customer logins, email/IM and IP > destinations. Although casual net use wasn't a concern until now, I'm > starting to lock down my communications with HTTPS.] I feel compelled to state that I think this will never happen. It's kind of an absurd requirement. This would be a tremendous burden upon a lot of people, and the gain is marginal at best. If people know their communication is being monitored then they'll start using end-to-end encryption, in which case the monitoring is useless and you're just inconveniencing everyone. I also can't imagine people being ok with this from a "I live in a free country" point of view. --Mark ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Can't add MSN contact
Hi all, I'm having trouble adding a contact to MSN buddies in Pidgin 2.7.9. When I try to add, I get the error: Unable to add the buddy x...@smartdatainc.com because the username is invalid. Usernames must be valid email addresses. At home I was on version 2.7.7 and managed to add the buddy after trying a couple of times. At work on 2.7.9 I'm unable to add the contact after several attempts. Has anyone seen this issue? Anything I can try, or is this a bug I need to submit? Problem with Pidgin
http://i.imgur.com/Bv8Zu.png You see with the first IM window, the top bar with the icon takes up way too much room. It happened randomly and I can't remember if I did anything to change it for that user. It open happens with the user 'Mike Chea.' The second window is an example of the default size to whichc I want Mike Chea to return to. ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
