Cannot connect to yahoo

I am using pidgin version 2.6.6-2.el5.4
It is running on RHEL 5 - 32 bit

I was on version 2.5.x and it was running fine. Of late I started noticing that 
change of status was not propagating to yahoo friends. So decided to upgrade 
and now I can not connect.

I use environment proxy

pager server is scsa.msg.yahoo.com
pager port 5050

file transfer server is filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
file transfer port is 80

Pidgin behaviour in linux

Hi,
  I am using pidgin in RHEL 5(32 bit) and it works great. There is something 
which I messed up and not sure how to revert back to old settings. 
  Normally when I use to start pidgin and then close the client by clicking on 
close icon in it, it used to go to the task bar in my gnome desktop. And that 
was very useful as I am still online. I can go offline or away by right 
clicking on the icon. So when I get an IM it will change it's look and I can 
start chatting. 
  Now when I close the client it just goes away and log's me off. 
  How can I go back to old settings is there something I need to do?
