Well I signed up for this list because the problem I was having was not
in the FAQ's, now I am trying to unsubscribe from this list but I find
no mail with my username and I don't remember it. So I can't change my
password or log in to the pidgin site. Because the username is required
for either action.

Perhaps this is an instance where a Filter directing list email to Your
junk/delete folder is in order?

NOT a good answer but it could be a temporary fix. I have never tried
to un-sub here, but isn't there an option to get your user name and
password mailed to you? And if not, why not?

It is very frustrating to not be able to un-sub from a list, especially
when there are lots of posts you aren't interested in. This is one way
to get on spam lists. I apparently am on one due to a shared mail
server, because I have a non-yahoo support post that has never shown up
and is probably sitting in the spam folder (hi moderators!).

Matt did the right thing, especially using said subject line, because
many mailing lists will route posts with this word to the moderators.
And gmail does count junk/trash against your quota from what I have seen.

Matt, have you tried emailing lschiere at pidgin.im, mark at
kingant.net, seanegan at pidgin.im?

Oh and moderators, I'm not a programmer but I do moderate various lists
so if you're looking for volunteers let me know...

Mine lets me set status by provider, I think it is one of the options in
the Purple Plugin Pack:

First I have to say that I am a former MirandaIM User when I had a
WIN32 machine and I was happy about it. Now I use Pidgin on a Xubuntu
machine and it makes me as happy as MirandaIM. Actually it is even
better and makes me happier because Pidgin is easier to use and to set
up than MirandaIM.

However there are some functions that MirandaIM has but that I can't
find or miss when is use Pidgin.

Firstly I can't find any option to disable the groups generally. Maybe
I am blind. However I searched it for weeks every now and then. I
actually never used the groups in the past so my contacs are very
unsorted now. If the list is alphabetical and divides between online
and offline contacts I am totally glad. Groups are overestimated.

Secondly MirandaIM is able to set differnt away stati (btw is this
plural form right? I am German and we decline the Latin way ^^) for
the different protocols. I miss this too because traditionally I get
more spammed on ICQ than on MSN. So I like to be invisible on ICQ
while it is annoing on MSN since you can't write messages on MSN while
you are invisible. Actually that is more a problem of the MSN protocol
but Bill Gates wouldn't listen to me. So you must ;).

with best regards and thank you for your patience ,

Re: Buddy List

2009-06-09 Thread Janine Starykowicz
You need to set up accounts at any of the others before you can connect
to them. Pidgin lets you talk to people at all providers, but you need
an account there first. Then you tell Pidgin your account info, and you
can add those buddies.

to use this program from a friend, he stated the convenience was that
you can chat with people that are on different applications and not
just Yahoo. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Pidgin feature

2009-06-04 Thread Janine Starykowicz
Look at the bottom of your Buddy List, you should have all accounts
listed and can set them separately. You might need to expand the window
if you don't see them all.

Re: freeze when closing

Pidgin used to hang all the time on older versions. I haven't had it
happen yet in 2.5.5 and my buddy list stays "shown" as well now.

Pidgin/Facebook/Chrome issue

2009-03-29 Thread Janine Starykowicz
I'm using the Facebook plugin for Pidgin, works great, especially since
I switched to Snarl for notifications. I recently switched to using
Chrome for Facebook because it is so much faster and I don't get any
error popups. However, when a Facebook contact messages me while I am
viewing a Facebook tab, the message also comes up from the bottom
toolbar. It goes away when I click the x, but comes back when I or the
other person send a message. This does not happen in Seamonkey or
Firefox, the little boxes stay minimized to the toolbar.

So, does anyone know how I tell Chrome that I don't want to use it for chat?

Thanks!

Re: Can't get buddy list started

I've never tried, I was a hotmail user when they started the IM.
Friends have let their MSN email accounts lapse but their IM signons
still work. I know with Yahoo you can use your Groups ID, I don't have
a yahoo email address with that account.

Re: Can't get buddy list started

2009-02-04 Thread Janine Starykowicz
IM is not like email, you can only message people on the same service.
What Pidgin does is aggregate this, so instead of having MSN Messenger,
AOL Messenger, Yahoo Messenger etc. all running at the same time, you
only need Pidgin.

But you still need a hotmail account to talk to hotmail people, and a
yahoo account to talk to yahoo people. And, you can only talk to people
who have also signed up for these accounts.

Re: msn spam im problem

2009-01-20 Thread Janine Starykowicz
There's a way to block unknown messages in MSN's client, although I
haven't used their client in several years. It seems to carry through,
because I've never had the problem since in either Trillian or now Pidgin.
