Custom groups aren't retained by Pidgin on Openfire server
I'm running 2.10.0 against my Openfire 3.7.0 server. I have a number of shared LDAP groups set up in Openfire, so, as I log into Pidgin, I have a set of predefined groups already presented to me. To replicate the problem, I do the following: 1. Create a custom buddy group in Pidgin called 'Test' 2. Add buddies from Openfire (from shared/pre-defined groups) server to the 'Test' group. 3. Close/re-open Pidgin 4. 'Test' group is there, but empty 5. Open Spark, 'Test' group is not there at all If I open Spark, perform the same steps, the group and members are retained. Opening Pidgin presents the created (from Spark) test group and added members. So, it seems like the problem really is Pidgin, or rather, how it interacts with the XMPP server/protocol. If I repeat these steps for my Google Talk buddies, the group and members are retained. Has anyone run into this limitation, and if so, what did you do? RE: plain txt passwords in .purple folder
Here's my tip - don't store your password in Pidgin, just have it prompt you every time. But, not everyone will follow this rule (knowing users). As an aside, it would be nice if there was a plugin developed for pidgin that would disallow password storage...or is there something that can be done to facilitate an 'always prompt' action? Re: Group Broadcast
You will need to enable it in your plugin settings...once it is enabled you can right click your buddy groups and send a group IM. - Reply message - From: "Tsolmonbaatar Adiyasuren" To: "Rob Dunn" , "support@pidgin.im" Subject: Group Broadcast Date: Mon, Oct 3, 2011 8:13 pm Thanks Rob, But I'm using Pidgin on my Windows PC. Re: IM (broadcast) to multiple users...
You need the group IM plugin, get it here: http://www.anhtt.net/blog/2009/04/30/pidgin-plugin-pidgin-groupmsg_251-piwener2/piwener.html Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4GLTE smartphone - Reply message - From: "Brian Klimowski" To: "support@pidgin.im" Subject: IM (broadcast) to multiple users... Date: Fri, Oct 28, 2011 12:29 pm Using Spark (http://www.igniterealtime.org/) we can broadcast an IM to multiple buddies (selecting from a checklist, which ones to send the message to). Message to send was on the left side, and user checklist was on the right side. I could not find a similar feature in Pidgin. So this is kind of a Feature Request. Brian. RE: IM (broadcast) to multiple users...
In this case, the website I linked to was in fact the author's blog. -Original Message- From: support-boun...@pidgin.im [mailto:support-boun...@pidgin.im] On Behalf Of Etan Reisner Sent: Friday, October 28, 2011 1:11 PM To: Brian Klimowski Cc: support@pidgin.im Subject: Re: IM (broadcast) to multiple users... The Group Message plugin can do some of what you want, yes. Though if you were to get it I would recommend getting it from your distribution or from the actual authors and not from some random website distributing binaries, but maybe that's just me. Alternatively if this is something that you need to be doing often and with set groups it should be possible to have the server support this sort of thing (akin to the way email mailing lists work) and "pidgin" has always felt that that is the correct model for this sort of thing. -Etan ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
