Pidgin question

2007-12-08 Thread ramy ismail
When you click a name on your buddy list and start typing, a small box opens up
near the bottom of the buddy list. When you hit enter, nothing happens. Is
there supposed to be a purpose for this, and if so what the hell is it?

Pidgin Question

2007-12-11 Thread Dayton T. Uphold
Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to see when someone signs on or signs off.
I know there is a plug-in to know when someone comes back or goes away...and it
says it will show when they sign on or offbut it doesn't do that.

Is there another option?

Thanks,

Pidgin Question

2010-04-15 Thread Rohit Santhanam
Hi,

I have a few questions about using Pidgin:

* Is there a way to list all the users that are currently connected to
the same IRC server that you are in Pidgin?

* Is there a way to prevent users of the Pidgin client from entering
IRC commands? They should only be allowed to speak to other users.

Regards,

Pidgin Question

2012-11-16 Thread Dang, Dorene
Hi,

I had a question about Pidgin. Am I able to add people as contacts from chat
groups I am not a part of? For example, if I only had a Google Talk about, but
I wanted to add someone who used MSN, do I need to create an MSN account? Is
Pidgin only able to bring in contacts from the same chat groups?

Thanks,
Dorene

Hello, I am using _javascript_ to call XMPP to start a conversation with body text already populated. It is a "typeahead" search. If you start typing a part of a buddy's name,
it will find that buddy.

The Guifications plugin at
http://plugins.guifications.org/trac/wiki/Guifications can do this. If it's not
working, you need to make sure you have a theme enabled and have notifications
turned on for each event you want to see.

Not that I've ever posted here before, but you know, looking through
Pidgin's preferences can help a lot before coming here with your
questions. Or even Googling "Change Pidgin icon"

Anyway, it's under accounts; Pick the one you want to change, edit the
account information, and click on the current icon to change it.

I'm going to guess that it's with XMPP transports; I used to have this
happen all the time. The solution is to use a plain Jabber program to
add transport users to your buddy list (Gajim, for example) and then log
back into Pidgin (it's what I had to do about a year ago, though it may
have been fixed right now -- if so, disregard this message)

Pidgin is simply a multi-protocol client, so yes you do need an account
with a particular service (such as MSN) to contact other people that use
said service.

Except where that service has an arrangement with another service, e.g.
the current arrangement between MSN and Yahoo. Pidgin is not aware of
such arrangements, they are completely handled by the service. Such
arrangements are commercial decisions and may be withdrawn by the
service at any time (there are actually reports that MSN will be
completely withdrawn, next year).

I'm confused... are you using Pidgin's purple-remote command? Or are you
receiving an XMPP message that was created by JavaScript somewhere? It's
not clear to me how you're using JavaScript to start a conversation.

In either case, have you tried passing in a space instead of %20?

Vista x64 Pidgin Question

2009-09-01 Thread Denis Parish
I have three desktop pc's running windows Vista Home Premium x64 that
are loosing their contacts in the Buddy List.

Two of the three will work again if you just close Pidgin and re-open
it. One of the pc's did this for a while also but jus recently that
didn't work anymore and we had to delete the user then add her back.

I upgraded their Pidgin client from 2.5.4 to 2.5.8 thinking that it
would fix the issue but it hasn't.

The Vista pc's that are 32bit don't have this problem nor do the XP
pc's.

Our IM server is running OpenFire 3.5.4

Is there any known issues with Vista 64 and any fixes?

Thanks,

Denis Parish

PIdgin question-logging conversations AIM buddy

2009-11-11 Thread Jackie Metzger
Hello,

I recently noticed when I use Pidgin at work, it generates a log file for
one of my AIM buddies on my list and keeps all the conversations, even
though I have it set not to log conversations. I checked all my other
buddies ICQ and AIM and no log files are generated when I talk to my other
buddies just for that 1 particular person. Everytime I send her a message
it creates a folder and logs the conversation. It looks like the it is
saving them as a txt file under documents/settings/ application data on my
local machine. Can you tell me why it is doing this. She tells me that she
does not have her AIM account set to log conversations either.

Please help, I think this is strange.
