 You need to ask whoever packages Pidgin for that distribution of Linux,
 I don't know who but it shouldn't be too difficult to find out.

This specifically comes from the fact that the Ubuntu PPA for Pidgin
tells Mint users to contact us if the PPA configuration doesn't know
that it can run on their Mint.

Ah, I see, didn't realise that. I have never used anything other than 
Redhat/Fedora so it's not something I am familiar with.
