As long as you only download from sourceforge, it is only a minor risk. In fact, by flatly rejecting the signature, Smartscreen is increasing the risk by not allowing the use of the level of protection that even SHA1 will provide. With its current behaviour smartscreen looks like it is only suitable for use in environments where ignoring a security warning is a sacking offence. Serious Download Issue
Hello Pidgin, I was trying to download your program but whenever I make an attempt I get directed to a site showing the following: [cid:image004.jpg@01D0E432.94BF5810] I tried doing this from various browsers and different tabs but still get the same result. I assume you are aware of this problem since it is a fairly serious one given that the program cannot be downloaded but just in case, I thought I would send you an email. The Pidgin Windows installer (typically not Pidgin itself) has been blocked by quite a few anti-virus and anti-malware apps in the past, due to the installer package we use (whatever it is) *also* being used by malware. Perhaps that's what is going on here. It is *also* certainly the case that several Pidgin download URLs were issued to Google in a DMCA takedown notice. The company that issued them is now backtracking (possibly due to actual liability for this act under some European jurisdictions in which both the company in question and Google have offices), but it may be or become a problem. I downloaded the file anyway and chrome deleted it after the download completed, calling the .exe 'malicious' as well. Virustotal says the file is clean ( 2a2c58cba5f9360f5f48cc59ccb5e1f82d59c3cc87a52648e9bd45b3968e10e3 ), maybe someone at google should be politely asked to drop sourceforge.net from their blacklist ? Olá, sou usário do Ubuntu. Se instalo o Pidgin pela Centra de Programas do Ubuntu, ele instala uma versão que fecha o programa sozinho. A solução encontrada por fim foi baixar o Pidgin PPA package . mas tive que reeinstalar o Ubuntu e estou tentando reinstalar o Pidgin, mas quando clico no linck do PPA dá erro. Hello, I just finished downloading Pidgin for Mac. When the download completed, a window popped up with the message of 'unarchiving pidgin...'. After that, I'm unable to find the application to open. Tamara, That is definitely the source code download, which won't do you any good unless you have a true knowhow and need for it. As Ethan said, Adium http://adium.im/ will be what you want. It's more/less pidgin for OSX. I downloaded latest version, and found that it was downloading 10+ MB GTK.zip which took a long time. However, I could not find where it stored the downloaded file so that I save that safely so that I don't need to re-download it if I format my pc. Where does it save it? It is suggested to ask for location to save the downloaded file and store it there and run from there. Or, providing a link from where user can download and install gtk.zip so that we can save it at some known place. -- My previous version of pidgin installer was already having gtk in the zip file. The most common cause of this is that you're behind a proxy that won't allow the installer to download the required GTK+ runtime. The download is bad. Try a different mirror. It should be quite a few MB's in size. Assuming you're downloading the Windows version, the main link from www.pidgin.im which redirects you to a sourcefourge.net page. Are you maybe trying a wget or some such on the link from the main page? (Which will open essentially download a small file of HTML). I've been trying to download the latest update - but it won't install. I've tried both from the main page and the alternative suggestion. The error message says: Installer integrity check has failed. Hi all, Just letting you know that I tried to upgrade from Gaim to Pidgin recently and the Windows distro that I downloaded from the Amsterdam mirror contained a copy of the Zlob trojan (Zlob.Porn.Mag.Pass to be exact).
