RE: transfering music files

2009-05-15 Thread ChO₂
If you're using AIM, the other user will be using AIM or ICQ.

Some IM services limit the number of simultaneous file transfers per
user. As your contact has received _some_ of your files, I suspect that
you are having issues because you were sending too many files at the
same time, but I'm not sure whether this is the reason. Just try to
resend all files that didn't arrive and look whether it works.

You don't need to use a different protocol, but XMPP (also known as
Jabber) is the best I know. However, Pidgin's implementation of
XMPP/Jabber file transfers isn't complete (yet) which is why I still use
to use other protocols for file transfer.

With kind regards
ChO₂

I use AIM. The person I was sending music to was able to get a couple of the
files, but not all. Not sure what he uses--Adium, on a Mac, but not sure what
his protocol is. Bonjour? I couldn't get any of the files he sent me.

Also, I was able to send him pictures too.

Would I have to use a different protocol (not AIM) to send files? If so, can
you recommend a good one for PCs?

This is a protocol-specific issue. What protocol are you using? ICQ?
AIM? MSN? XMPP/Jabber?

(By the way, it shouldn't make a difference what kind of files you are
sending. If you have problems with music files, all other kinds of files
won't work either (but there are restrictions to file sizes on some
protocols).)

Hello,

I just added pidgin to my PC (Windows) and am trying to send and accept
music files. Do you support this? When I try to get a music file I see a
window that says the title of the song, but always says, “Waiting to
begin transfer” and it never transfers.

Thanks for your great product.

Jana
