What is "the program" and how and where did you install it? For most

There will be an icon in your system tray on Windows, right click this
and select Quit.

An alternative is to kill the pidgin.exe process using the Task Manager.

Assuming you are on Windows, then hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, go to the task manager
and then kill the pidgin process there.

On the Control Panel, look for Programs and Settings, or Install/Remove
Applications. Remove from there. This works for any version of Windows
since Windows 95.

Pidgin is not responsible for your account. You will have to cancel it
with ICQ, MSN, yahoo! or whatever service you are using.

However, to uninstall Pidgin you should be able to find a entry inside
your Windows System Manager (system control?) inside Software section.

On Windows, it "runs in the system tray", as do MSN Messenger, and
Skype. You need to stop it from the system tray icon, before you can
remove it, as Windows won't let you remove a running program.

There may also be ways of getting Windows to start without auto-starting
applications.

2019-09-17 Thread Chris Garriss
You do not have to have Pidgin start when you boot, at some point you
either made the choice or left a default option. You should be able to
change this is settings or options. I have never enabled it to start
automatically, I use multiple computers and did not want it installed on
some, so I used the Portable Apps version on a thumb drive for those. That
did not start automatically either. I also had no problems uninstalling
and wiping the drive space when I was passing along a system.

Lately I have tended to use more and more Portable Apps on a thumb drive
just for convenience.

Not a Windows 7 user, but normally you simply open the control panel,
open add/remove programs, wait for the list to appear, scroll down to

Chances are the configuration files aren't being deleted. These are

Cannot uninstall Pidgin

2017-04-03 Thread Cecilia Le
Hello Pidgin support staff,

I'm having a little trouble uninstalling Pidgin. I received the following
screen when attempting to uninstall:

More details:
- Windows 10
- Pidgin doesn't appear in the 'Apps and Features' list, thus cannot delete
that way
- I cut/pasted the program folder to move it from a folder I made in the
C:\ drive 'Program Files 2' to 'Program Files (x86), then moved it back
- I downloaded the Facebook .dll files, but then deleted them after
receiving this error screen (to no effect)

Please let me know if you require any further information.

Kind regards,

Pidgin should appear in the standard Add/Remove Programs list in the

You probably need to have administrator privileges to uninstall it.

Well, assuming you are on Windows, then try to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to the

need to reboot.

The most likely cause is that your download didn't complete
successfully - I'd suggest downloading the installer again, if
necessary from a different mirror.

If you follow the instructions to validate the installer signature
(https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Are%20the%20packages%20signed#WindowsInstallers),
that will also validate that your download was successful.

suggest downloading the installer again, if necessary from a different mirror.

If you follow the instructions to validate the installer signature
(http://cp.mcafee.com/d/5fHCN8SyOqen7SkQm73tPqdSkTChOqbNJ6XarP8Vcs-rhKOCYOejhd79J6XbbP3O9EVvdEv6cH5u_qj1mS-B2R9-HjBPuS-B2R9-HjBPq91BN1BB_HY-essvjWZOWqpEVvVVBxCWvbnhIyCHtVfBgY-F6lK1FJ4SyrLOtXTLuZXTdTdAVPmEBC8upY-GTNVqi16keAHxyhmm24v7FTCjYuDtrr5t8_guDuAycfg0M1pggGoE6MFfjP_zgSxI9uvSPQY_ioa8yvbCQPhOzsS2_id40c60Qod40R6doCy0Mj-1EwD4Ja14QgjGq86UixiuDDCy0big8OwrosdPoQUefpVhOhV),
that will also validate that your download was successful.

Re: NSIS Error when trying to uninstall Pidgin

2014-04-03 Thread Tres Finocchiaro
Another recommendation is to make sure pidgin is not set to load on
startup, reboot, disable your antivirus, install and then uninstall.

If the uninstaller is crashing it is most likely caused by something other
than the nullsoft installer. This could be several things such as
anti-malware blocking a file or registry operation, corrupt or improper
permissions in the registry, corrupt files, bad hard driver sectors, locked
or partial files, etc. You will likely need to take corrective action on
the underlying issue before this issue will be fixed. There are several
free tools such as CCleaner, Malwarebytes, chkdsk which can help. If these
don't help, you may choose to Google the steps to manually uninstall an
application (with CCleaner supports as well).

It's likely that your virus checker or something of that nature is
getting in the way.
A google search results in a number of reports of people experiencing
similar issues with NSIS based installers caused by their virus
checker.

The NSIS website appears to be having issues, but I pulled this
snippet from a cached version of their FAQ:

NSIS Installer/Uninstaller will raise this error whenever you will
launch the installer/uninstaller from an forbidden location (such as
C:\, C:\Windows, C:\Program Files, etc).

This is an constraint set on initialization phase of
installer/uninstaller and it will always check for this rule. It make
sense while you might have a RMDir/Delete instruction in your
install/uninstall sections that will harm your system irreversibly.

Just make sure you run this software from a valid location and the
installer/uninstaller will load into memory

purple-facebook plugin wants to uninstall hundreds of programs

2015-10-07 Thread Wade Smart
Im not on my usual computer. I am attempting to install the
purple-facebook plugin.
After installing the repos I went to install (I use synaptic) and
there is a star in the check box. When I click to install it wants to
uninstall hundreds of programs including apache, firefox, gedit ?? I
have no idea what any of these would have to do with this plugin.

I didnt see anything like this on my other computers. They are all 14.04.

Re: Not working with Yahoo and cannot uninstall or exit or close

Okay, a few things:

You did not go to Yahoo's web site, you clicked on an advertisement on
your search results. We are not responsible for the condition of the
software on that site as we did not publish it there. Our web site is
pidgin.im, so if you downloaded the software through some other site, we
cannot tell you what you got exactly.

It is neither the official Yahoo client or the official Pidgin client.

This is too vague a problem description for us to assist you. What
version of Pidgin do you have? What happens when you try to message
someone?

> When I tried to Uninstall Pidgin, got error message

Pidgin is probably still running in your system notification area. Try
looking for a green circle with a chat bubble and right click that icon,
then select "Quit" At that point you should be able to uninstall
Pidgin. However, I can't say for certain this will work since the copy
of the software you have may have been modified in ways I'm unaware of.

You might also bring up your Task Manager and try killing any processes
listed as "pidgin.exe"
