Re: uninstall
You do not have to have Pidgin start when you boot, at some point you either made the choice or left a default option. You should be able to change this is settings or options. I have never enabled it to start automatically, I use multiple computers and did not want it installed on some, so I used the Portable Apps version on a thumb drive for those. That did not start automatically either. I also had no problems uninstalling and wiping the drive space when I was passing along a system. Lately I have tended to use more and more Portable Apps on a thumb drive just for convenience. sent from my Galaxy S9 919-357-0863 On Tue, Sep 17, 2019, 18:13 David Woolley wrote: > I'm not in a position to verify this, but the first thing I would try is > the standard messenger application technique of using the system tray > menu to close it down. > > If that doesn't work, try starting Windows in Safe Mode. > > If that doesn't work, kill it with task manager. > > > On 17/09/2019 22:28, Dave Rice wrote: > > Please send me uninstall instructions. > > > > The typical Microsoft uninstall program cannot remove pidgin unless the > > program is not running. Re: NSIS Error when trying to uninstall Pidgin
Another recommendation is to make sure pidgin is not set to load on startup, reboot, disable your antivirus, install and then uninstall. If the uninstaller is crashing it is most likely caused by something other than the nullsoft installer. This could be several things such as anti-malware blocking a file or registry operation, corrupt or improper permissions in the registry, corrupt files, bad hard driver sectors, locked or partial files, etc. You will likely need to take corrective action on the underlying issue before this issue will be fixed. There are several free tools such as CCleaner, Malwarebytes, chkdsk which can help. If these don't help, you may choose to Google the steps to manually uninstall an application (with CCleaner supports as well). -Tres ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? It's likely that your virus checker or something of that nature is getting in the way. A google search results in a number of reports of people experiencing similar issues with NSIS based installers caused by their virus checker. The NSIS website appears to be having issues, but I pulled this snippet from a cached version of their FAQ: NSIS Installer/Uninstaller will raise this error whenever you will launch the installer/uninstaller from an forbidden location (such as C:\, C:\Windows, C:\Program Files, etc). This is an constraint set on initialization phase of installer/uninstaller and it will always check for this rule. It make sense while you might have a RMDir/Delete instruction in your install/uninstall sections that will harm your system irreversibly. Just make sure you run this software from a valid location and the installer/uninstaller will load into memory -D > > Derrick E. Re: Not working with Yahoo and cannot uninstall or exit or close
Okay, a few things: On 11/04/2011 06:43 PM, Jerry Wilson wrote: > I went to Yahoo Messenger to set up an account, but the site said it now > uses Pidgin which allegedly works with MSN, Yahoo and other messaging > programs. You did not go to Yahoo's web site, you clicked on an advertisement on your search results. We are not responsible for the condition of the software on that site as we did not publish it there. Our web site is pidgin.im, so if you downloaded the software through some other site, we cannot tell you what you got exactly. It is neither the official Yahoo client or the official Pidgin client. > However, it does not work with anything and I can’t uninstall > it. What happens when you try to message someone? > When I tried to Uninstall Pidgin, got error message > that it was still running and I had to exit it first, but there is no > damn way to exit it. Pidgin is probably still running in your system notification area. Try looking for a green circle with a chat bubble and right click that icon, then select "Quit" At that point you should be able to uninstall Pidgin. However, I can't say for certain this will work since the copy of the software you have may have been modified in ways I'm unaware of. You might also bring up your Task Manager and try killing any processes listed as "pidgin.exe" signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
