I have to guess what your problem is. Perhaps you have several Mail
Accounts and some of them use use Local Folders. Look under Server
Settings -> Advanced, if 'Global Inbox (Local Folders Account)' is checked.

Please Help Testing: SeaMonkey 1.1.17 candidate builds

2009-06-07 Thread Robert Kaiser

Hi all,

We're preparing SeaMonkey 1.1.17, our next regular security release for
the SeaMonkey 1.1.x series, with the same base as Thunderbird 2.0.0.22,
planned for going public early next week.

A number of security and stability fixes went into this release, see

(note that you may not be able to see all security bugs yet, some will
only go public once Firefox 3.0.11 is released), we need good testing of
the candidate builds to avoid shipping regressions.

Please help testing our SeaMonkey 1.1.17 candidate builds

- preferably via performing the smoketests from the, please go to and do
a SeaMonkey 1.1 test run
 on
.

Once we have verified that the builds work well, we can release this
security-enhanced version to all our users as scheduled.

Thanks for your help,

Robert Kaiser

In 2.0a3 you should have a menu item View->Apply Theme.

You should also be able to do:
  Tools->Add-ons Manager.
  Select the Themes pane.
  Change the selected theme.

Thanks, but I only use the mail and browser parts of SeaMonkey. No chat or
composer for me. So if I moved to Thunderbird, I would move to FireFox also.

I have thought about doing this (mostly because SeaMonkey is always behind
FireFox, and also for extension compatibility), but I'm so used to having web

Never even noticed the green arrow before. Just watched for items that
were blacker than the rest. Now that I know about the green arrow it
takes me twice as long to determine if the message was viewed or not. (:>)

I might as well uncheck it also, because in SM2 I cannot tell the difference
whether the green arrow is there or not.

But what is the point of having the icon if the two versions are not easily
distinguished?

Not particularly.
When a message is unread in a thread, in addition to the green arrow the
Subject title is changed to a Bold font, further emphasizing the unread
status.

BTW, I use SM 1.1.16, and (assuming that is included in your "SM1.x"
category) the green arrow does not appear below the message thread icon.
It's superimposed.

Keith:

Ah yes, in the "Modern" theme you are correct; the icon is more like the one in
SM2 (but slightly more readable). I use the "Classic" theme, which I prefer,
which has the green arrow below.

AFAICT, in the SM2 Alpha 3 there is no ability to change the theme. Will that
change in the final release?

Yes, I am using SM 1.16 also. Actually, a post is bold when the post itself is
unread. It is underlined if (a) the thread is not expanded, (b) the post itself
is read and (c) there are unread responses.

Maybe I have to start looking for the underline rather than the green arrow. But
old habits die hard.

Do you see then the exactly under the 'okay'? ;)

Hartmut

No, its offset slightly when I read the message, in my reply it looks
fine.

Doesn't answer the question tho. If HTML is 'okay' in RSS, why not
email or news?

Dan, I choose to view my NG's in Plain Text. If you want to view them
in HTML, that's fine, but I don't want the increased overheads of HTML
as I pay by the byte for my downloads.

I don't want to be forced to have the increased overheads. If RSS is
ONLY available in HTML mode, I guess that is a reason why I will not
use it!

Your view may vary!!

Daniel

Well, in short you are paying for it anyway! When you download a
message it is downloaded in whatever form it is, HMTL or plain text. It
is only your display that selects what you see, after it is downloaded.
So, if a message is sent in HTML, you are paying for it, regardless if
you see the HTML or not.

For example: If I sent this message in HTML, you would see it listed
just like any other, if you choose to open it (to read it) the message
is downloaded, HTML and all. Since you have your view set to plain text,
only that component is displayed, the rest is suppressed. But it isn't
saving you any download bytes at all.

Even if I sent it in both (something I never do or encourage) HTML and
plain text, when you download it, all the components are downloaded. If
you choose (or have chosen via preferences) to view only plain text,
then thats what you see, but the HTML components are still there, on
your computer.

With emails, the same applies. When you download it, you get the entire
messages as it was sent, HTML and all.

So, sorry to say, your penchant for reading only plain text is not, in
reality, saving you any download bytes.

Yes, Dan, my penchant for reading only plain text is not saving me any
download bytes, but my penchant to let people that want everything in
HTML know that not everyone like this in HTML may, just maybe, have an
effect on someone, so saving me download bytes in the future.maybe!!
