Apparently two free servers are available: Mozilla and Netscape. Is it
correct that they do not offer any Usenet newsgroups for subscription?

Correct, Jeanne, these two news servers are not UseNet servers, but
corporate servers that the public have some access to.

The other reply's to your post have given you several possibilities.

But if you have any problems with your SeaMonkey, you know where to come!

Good luck.

I have not been able to get it to work either until just recently.
Facebook has the simple uploader feature and I had to use that to make
it work.
That said using 2.0.5 and the latest java rte it worked perfectly a few
days ago. I do not know what changed, java, seamonkey, facebook but it
now seems to work.

The only way I know to do this is to use, for mail, an IMAP server.
The mail stays on the server.

If you use the mail protocol POP, the mail is downloaded to the client

OpenDNS is supposed to, at the router-level, filter
everything that passes through it.

Are you saying that routers pass newsgroup feeds
unhindered, even with OpenDNS toggled-on?

I don't know either way but that would seem very odd.

Subject: Duplisate Mail NewsGroup Folders on 2 PCs??
To: support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org

Is there an easy way to synchronize or duplicate all Mail, NewsGroup,
and Local folders and files on two computers, both running XPpro and
Seamonkey??

The only way I know to do this is to use, for mail, an IMAP server.
The mail stays on the server.

If you use the mail protocol POP, the mail is downloaded to the client
and then deleted from the server. There is an option with POP to leave
a copy of the mail on the server but I don't know of a way to get THAT
mail off of the server.

I have only one pc running seamonkey, using mail with pop3, and i leave
the mails on the server.
To delete the mails on the server i use PopTray
http://www.poptray.org/ or http://sourceforge.net/projects/poptray/

If you use an IMAP mail account, drafts, trash etc for that account will
reside on the server. You can then set your news account(s) to use
folders of the IMAP account instead of Local Folders for sent, drafts,
archives and templates.

This is not really duplication, but synchronization, so it does not
provide the same data protection that simple duplication does, but it
does provide conveniance. (If you're not used to IMAP, you'll need to
get used to the fact that deleting a message on one PC will also delete
it on the server and the other PC.)

One problem is that you need an email provider that provides IMAP, and
that since all mail is stored on the server that provider needs to
provide enough mail storage space for your needs.

Please bottom post here -thanks :-)

As I said: I don't know. I do not have OpenDNS as I'd rather rely on my

Meaning: I wasn't disputing the recommendation, but asking a question as
to how this is accomplished via OpenDNS.

With 2.05, some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps it
doesn't work when the FB server is overloaded. Using the simple
uploader always works for me but it is a PITA to use if you have a lot
of photos.

SM also has a problem with FB text boxes.
FaceBook seems to be written for IE.

I use IE8 for FB and SM for about 75%
of other websites.

Can one just copy over the whole mozilla subdirectory?

I was able to do so, but the Win7 location is different from XP:
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/2.0/install-and-uninstall
  Windows Vista Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey

Note: I'd mentioned previously that that page should be changed to
'Windows Vista Win 7' but...

Note: I also modified the pref.js file to reflect the proper
user/path(s) as well. If you search this group, you'll find other methods.

My guess would be that if you did a stock standard installation, the
locations might change from OS to OS, but if you did a Custom
Instillation, you should be able to point the Win7 SM to the WinXP SM
profile location!!

Daniel (who likes to put things in non standard places!! - minds out of
the gutter please!!)
