Re: Can I control the encoding of the Subject list in the message display pane?

2011-01-25 Thread Stanimir Stamenkov

Tue, 25 Jan 2011 20:33:32 -0500, /Rostyslaw Lewyckyj/:

When I go to read newsgroups such as ukr.politics or some other
groups that normally don't use iso-8859-1 or other basically latin1
encoding,
most of the Subject: headers do not come with the magic cookies that
will cause them to be properly displayed in the message listing pane.
When I load the article body, I can go to 'Options' in the tool bar,
select various Character encodings and have SM change the display
to that encoding on the fly. How can I do the same for the message
Subject: list?

Not sure if this will help but try right-clicking the group, open
its Properties and then select "Default Character Encoding".

I've played with the 'fonts' option under appearance in Preferences.
But that seems to have no effect.

If a particular message is too small, use CTRL-+ (CTRL-plus) to increase
the font size, CTRL-- (CTRL-minus) to reduce it, CTRL-0 to return to the
default size.

I don't know how to set the default, though -- others will answer that.

Have you tried disabling JavaScript as suggested more than once in this
thread? With the PrefBar extension, disabling and enabling JavaScript
merely involves checking or clearing a checkbox.

Also, RFC 3676 states that you should have a blank after the two hyphens
before your signature block. It should be dash-dash-space. You have
dash-dash without the space.

Doesn't work.

The application is simply insecure.

It can be useful, but it has insufficient security.

When I get those dialogue boxes, the only solution is to crash the
application (use the kill delinquent application utility), and lose
everything open within the browser.

It is the way that it is. Insecure.

Susan,

I cannot tell you why you have this behavior with SM; it could be from a
Windows upgrade, or a SM upgrade where your mail preferences were not saved.

Look in Preferences Mail and NEWSGROUPS	for each mail account under
Copies and Folders to make sure you have the settings you need. The top
option should be Place a copy in: "Sent" folder on (account name)

Once set correctly all your outgoing messages will have a copy placed in
your Sent folder for that mail account. In the mean time look in the
folder "Local Folders" and see if you have some sent messages residing
in there. It seems that the Local Folders is a default storage for all
messages when not explicitly set for each mail account.

There is bug open (Form History is shared code) to avoid saving credit

If someone were to enter your house, steal your computer, it's
relatively easy to grab your passwords. That is a MUCH different
scenario than sitting at your computer on your desk.

Now, if you were to password protect your harddrive then it becomes much
more difficult and IF you password protect your OS, even more difficult.
Just password protecting your browsers isn't a standalone solution by
itself, there is always a "backdoor".

Why don't people password protect the opening of SeaMonkey?

I have every web Browser I use *Password Protected* so that I have to
