Some users might find Reset useful. However, it removes all extensions.

I have 18 extensions installed in SeaMonkey. I rely upon almost all of
them at least once a day if not more often. Reinstalling them would be
 a bother.

Furthermore, removing AdBlock Plus would remove all the custom filters
that I setup over a period of three years. Removing PrefBar would
remove custom buttons that I created over a period of four years. I
really would not appreciate having to redo all that.

Thus, I would likely never use Reset.

One nice feature in Opera is that it has a user selection to reset
about:config to default(s) without touching anything else...*that* would
be a nice feature to have in SM.

Exit seamonkey, remove prefs.js from your profile, and start it again.

I noticed something else that will do it as part of its normal behaviour.

That's Gmail. Gmail deduplicates messages automatically, even if they
have slightly different headers (like the same message coming from two
different Yahoogroups). Which can be annoying sometimes.

But, if you have a folder with lots of duplicate messages and a good
broadband link, one easy (not quick, but easy) way to solve the problem
is as follows:

1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Enable IMAP for the account.
3. Connect your mail client to Gmail via IMAP.
4. Move the folder with the duplicates to Gmail.
5. Move the folder back to its regular place.

The part that takes a while is uploading everything to Gmail. Moving
them back is fast.

Mail composition in SeaMonkey 2.12

Incompatible options. Plain text is plain text; by definition
it cannot specify a font (or even a font family such as monospaced).
You will have to select one or the other; if you select plain text,
then you will be dependent on your reader to select use monospaced
font for plain text messages; if you select formatted, then you
rely on your reader's e-mail client to be able to handle the format
your e-mail client uses (HTML).

LDAP access password in Seamonkey 2.16

2013-02-26 Thread NFN Smith
Since I've upgraded to Seamonkey 2.16, I notice that the capacity to
save a password for an LDAP server is no longer there. Thus, every time
I query my LDAP server for an address, I get a password prompt.

I checked a second installation of Seamonkey, and verified that I can
save a password in 2.15, but when I upgrade to 2.16, LDAP queries get a
password prompt.

I checked this in Thunderbird 19, and I can still save passwords there,
so this looks like something specific to Seamonkey, rather than a
Mozilla platform thing.

I did check the release notes for Seamonkey 2.16, and I don't see any
mention of this.

Any ideas of what's happening here?

SM 2.16 not refreshing a web page

2013-02-26 Thread flyguy
I have a simple web page with a single table holding 10 jpeg images from
webcams. SM 2.15 and previously, I could click on the reload icon, and
it would pull in the latest images. With 2.16, that does not reload the
page. Shift+click the reload icon does not force a reload; neither does
shift+ctrl R.

If I right-click, then view image, the image will be the newest one;
returning to the page and clicking Reload will than show the new image.

If I clear the cache, clicking the reload icon will reload the page.

All my other web pages seem to reload normally when I click the reload icon.

How can I get the page to reload when I click the reload icon?

QUESTIONS

2013-02-26 Thread worldwideelvis

Hi

I just downloaded SEA MONKEY 2.7 because I needed to finally get out of
using NETSCAPE 7.1 and I needed to import all mail, bookmarks, etc and
all is well.

But now I want to upgrade to the current SM version.

My first question is - is 2.16 the latest version? If so I don't
understand why it is less than 2.7. I know there ws a 2.8 and 2.9 so
why has the CURRENT version gone backward?

Second question - if 2.16 is the current one when I download it will I
still keep my mail-bookmarks-address books, etc.?

Many thanks

Yes, 2.16 is the most current version. And no, it hasn't gone
backwards. You are misunderstanding how version numbers work.
A version number is NOT A DECIMAL NUMBER. That dot is not a decimal
separator, it's a group separator.

2.7 does not mean 70% of the way towards 3, nor 2.16 mean2 16% of the
way towards 3.
2.7 means Version 2, revision 7, and 2.16 means Version 2, revision 16.

You can add more groups (which you couldn't do if it were a decimal
number, by the way). So the previous version number, 2.15.1, meant
Version 2, revision 15, update 1

Second question - if 2.16 is the current one when I download it will I
still keep my mail-bookmarks-address books, etc.?

If you have already migrated from Netscape 7.1 to Seamonkey 2.7, then
the hard part is behind you. The most complicated migration was from
Mozilla 1.x/Netscape 7.x/Seamonkey 1.x to Seamonkey 2.0, and a slightly
less troublesome one from 2.0.x to 2.1.

Upgrading from 2.7 to 2.16 should be as easy as just installing the new
version over the old one. There were no significant changes to user
profiles (where your data is stored) in that timeframe.

But note I wrote SHOULD. In theory, all should go well. Nevertheless,
it's a good precaution to make a backup of your user profile before
starting.

Besides the PreferencesBrowserTabbed Browsing options Rufus and

PreferencesBrowserLink Behavior preferences, and select always open a
new window for all three choices.

Not that I have any experience with those settings; I like tabs. But to

Very severe solution. All customizations lost, accounts lost, etc.
you would be better to advocate creating a new profile and re-creating

That is a horribly drastic solution.
