It's been ages since I did it (since Mozilla Suite days, I think), but
it used to work. You just needed a Windows profiles.ini with

Just the thing that trips up some folk when moving from Windows to Linux
is with Linux you MUST pay attention to case so the Windows default path
uses a uppercase P in profile you better make sure the profile.ini
reflect it.

It is NOT merely profiles.ini that has Windows-type paths. I count more
than 40 Windows-type paths in my prefs.js (the file that contains
preference settings).

This works for me.

Note that, if you selected [Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page] on the
SeaMonkey menu bar while viewing the page, the bookmark is entered as
the last item in Bookmarks Menu. Afterwards, select [Bookmarks > Manage
Bookmarks]. On the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager window, select
[All Bookmarks > Bookmarks Menu]. Then scroll to the bottom of the
right pane; you should see the bookmark there.

I learned to use File Bookmark because I always want the bookmark to go
into a specific folder.

True, but AFAIK none of them are showstoppers. E.g., if
browser.download.lastDir points to some place the running SeaMonkey
can't make sense of, it will just revert to using the default location
for downloads.

I have the PrefBar extension with a button to launch the Bookmarks
Manager. When I want to create a bookmark from a Web page that I am
viewing, I launch the Bookmarks Manager and move its window so that at
least part of it extends to the right of SeaMonkey's browser window. I
locate where I want to place the new bookmark and select the entry
either just before or just after that location. Finally, I drag the URI
from the browser's address area to just above or below the highlighted
entry in the Bookmarks Manager window. This might seem complicated, but
it often takes me less than a minute to accomplish.

eMail Tone When D/L...

2015-08-16 Thread SameulS

Hello all,

My challenge today is with the tone notification when e Mail arrives. I
Am using SM 2.33.1 on a desk top using Win 10Pro.

I have gone to Edit -> Mail & Newsgroups -> Notifications -> Unclick
Play a sound. Which has no effect at all, I still get the tones when
emails arrive.

It returns to the setting Play a sound if I close the browser and
restart it as well.

Any suggestions or ideas on how stop this small annoyance?

TIA - bo1953

Since I normally have my speakers turned off and since I use Thunderbird
instead of SeaMonkey's mail-news capability, I am not sure this will
work. However, try this.

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Help > Troubleshooting
Information].

2. Under Application Basics on the Troubleshooting Information page,
select the Show Folder button.

3. Terminate SeaMonkey.

4. In the resulting Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) window,
locate the file user.js and open it with either Notepad or Wordpad (but
NOT Word).

5. Insert the following:
user_pref("mail.biff.play_sound", false);
// disable new-mail sound

6. Save the edited user.js file.

7. Relaunch SeaMonkey.

NOTES:
* The semi-colon at the end of the first line is required.
* The second line is merely a comment to remind you why you did this.
* Changes to user.js are not effective until the next time SeaMonkey is
launched (thus steps #3 and #7).

Re: Slow email sending

2015-08-16 Thread Ant

I am using SM 2.32.1 on Win. XP SP3 and have started experiencing the
slow sending of emails since my ISP installed new modems. I can send
fast on web mails or using Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook 2007 but
with SeaMonkey it takes up to 2 minutes to connect with the server. I
disabled my virus program which I have set not to check emails and
disabled my firewall but that did not help I ran in safe mode with all
extension disabled but that did not help either. I ran 2.37 and it was
the same as 2.32.1 as was SM 2.26 and Thunderbird.
I talked to my ISP and my port settings are OK [port 25. Any ideas?

JAS

Sorry, no ideas but my SM mail is doing the same thing.
1 to 2 minutes to send!
Hope someone has some ideas.

Is it all the time or random? I notice sometimes it takes my EarthLink's
SMTP to connect once in a while. I thought it was my ISP but on TWC's
Internet! I'm also using v2.33.1 and Windows XP Pro. SP3. :(
