Compacting Folders
Win 10 Sm 2.53.5.1 Noticed that I no longer see the message signifying that the folders are being compacted. Are they being compacted? -- "This is America! Re: Change in password retention in MailNews?
On 11/21/2020 1:23 PM, NFN Smith wrote: This one may be a little bit of a personal quirk, but my handling of email going to my work account and primary personal account is done where I let the Seamonkey password manager remember my password for SMTP and LDAP access, but where I don't allow it to remember for POP access. To me, because I have complex passwords, it's useful to have to enter those regularly, as a way of ensuring that I never forget them -- and there are occasions where it is useful to know that I have them memorized, without having to rely on my external password manager. I'm used to the idea that a password needs to be entered once per session, and since I have Seamonkey open all day, entering those passwords once per day is an acceptable intrusion, if I don't have need to restart Seamonkey. However, I'm seeing that after a few hours open, Seamonkey seems to be forgetting the entered passwords, and where I have to manually re-enter to check for new mail. I just upgraded to 2.53.5.1 it's still happening. I haven't watched closely, but this seems to have started happening since 2.53.4. Is there some change to Seamonkey that would cause the difference in handling? I checked my server settings, and I have one set to check for new messages every 15 minutes and the other every 30 minutes. I've experimented with lowering both to 5 minute intervals, and I'm still seeing the same effect. I'm not sure how frequently I have to re-enter passwords, but over the course of about 9 hours, I have to re-enter at least twice. Should I just accept things, and let Seamonkey remember my POP passwords? Smith I noticed similar behavior beginning in 2.53.4. I'm now entering IMAP passwords several times a day instead of when first opening SeaMonkey Mail. Sorry, I meant to include the fact that FRG made that comment. Re: Languages & Dictionaries
rick-shar wrote: RicklesP wrote: Mark, etc, Now that I've had time to try, I've downloaded v2.68 and (?)successfully installed it into my wife's laptop. It shows up in the Add-On Mgr screen as a loaded Dictionary, but is not available to select anywhere. Whether composing a new email or as the default language under Properties - Appearance - Spelling, the only entry in her SM v2.53.5 install is for the default English-US. And of course, the link for 'add more dictionaries' takes me to the Thunderbird add-ons download page, for what that's worth. I really don't want to abandon SM, but if my English wife can't compose emails in her own language in the mail client, what's the point? I've been a loyal Netscape/Mozilla/SM user for some time, but I'm not a developer. My skill set is in system administration, not programming. My thanks to all who replied with additional suggestions, but it has been sorted, finally. Not only did the v2.68 install didn't work even after SM and then the laptop restarts, but attempting to use the 'download more dictionaries' link didn't do anything--no web page, no nothing. With no other changes, I installed v2.53.5.1 on top of the current setup, and the v2.68 English-UK dictionary is now listed as such, and is now set as the default. Composition tests with spell check work as you'd expect, that way. I have no idea what was corrupted, but the latest install did something and all is now well. I suspect when the new version scanned for existing add-ons it perhaps had the same effect as removing and re-adding the dictionary add-on (now at version 2.68). Anyway, the main thing is it's working now :) Thanks for getting back - it's always good to know that problems are resolved, and the eventual solution can sometimes help others too. -- Mark. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
