Ok, I'm a big step further - the documentation on the seamonkey page is
completely outdated. The common mozilla repos do not contain this script any
longer and / or report this as a no longer supported approach.

So HOW to compile seamonkey for Linux?

There must be a way, otherwise there would not be an installer for Linux :-)

Thanks - but I don'T find the thread, I joined too late to the list and the
newsgroup archive doesn't seem to be public available.

Any other description for building the software from sources? So both FF and SM
seem to be invalid here... The python command definitively points to a file that
is not existing in the repos. So it's more a question about a broken repo,
isn't it?

Bulding Seamonkey - client.py missing

2020-08-19 Thread Erik Rull
Hi all,

I tried to build seamonkey from the sources and followed the instructions until
this point:

comm-central$ python client.py checkout
python: can't open file 'client.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory

I checked the cloned repo and there is no client.py existing - of course lots of
other .py files but none that would fit the needs... same with the release
repo...

Where can I get this from?

When checking for the firefox compilation, the steps are quite similar so I fail
at the same step... hg, etc. was installed.

Thanks!

Yes I do. Just close the lid of the laptop and it goes to sleep. Why manually
closing applications before that? All others survive...
You mean just disable plugin by plugin once the higher load appears?
I'll give it a try next time and let you know.

Re: Seamonkey 2.53.1 and others eat my laoptop battery

2020-06-28 Thread Erik Rull
Hi,

no, it is not.
When seamonkey starts consuming CPU, I can also close all tabs beside
about:performance and the load stays! Some years ago some hint that it could be
the IMAP logics running in the background but there was never a prove for that.

I encounter this problem now for years, why should 2.53.2 fix it?
I will try it out, but I fear the issue still remains.

Best regards,

Erik

Seamonkey 2.53.1 and others eat my laoptop battery

2020-06-27 Thread Erik Rull
Hi all,

after some days of runtime, seamonkey starts eating my laptop battery by
constantly consuming CPU time - 55 to 75% even if I close all active tabs!
I tried to chase this with about:performance but this then complains, that
about:performance is the culprit - and when closing it, CPU load does not
decrease.

I have this trouble since more than 10 years, some responses told me that the
IMAP might be one of problems, but there was never a proof of that.

Is there any way to track this issue? Restarting seamonkey always helps - but
this is not the nice way of solving it. Sometimes seamonkey crashes after a
certain runtime and this higher CPU load which resolves indirectly the problem.
Can I somehow trace threads etc. for their CPU load?

I encoutered the problems on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10 as well on
kubuntu 18.04.

Erik

Dear Walt,

Ctrl + R triggers a reply to the sender, not to the list. "Newsgroup" is not
part of the menu label, I only see "Reply to List", which has no shortcut!
Forward, Reply all and Reply do have shortcuts.

Did the "Reply to List" shortcut get lost? Or are we talking about different
versions? I use the 2.53.1. Or are some settings mixed up?

Determining SM Thread that causes constant load

2020-04-17 Thread Erik Rull
Hi all,

I run SM round the clock and have quite a lot of tabs available - but not loaded
because I didn't click on since the last restart.

When I have ~ 5 tabs actually loaded so that they are displayed in
about:performance - all of them are green while the SM process takes ~ 80% CPU
load.

I would like to get to the bottom of the thing causing the load. This was also
an issue in 2.49.x.

How can I trace this?

Thanks.

Changing Date formatting on Seamonkey 2.53.1

2020-04-07 Thread Erik Rull
Hi all,

I just upgraded to Seamonkey 2.53.1 from 2.49.x and the first thing that I saw
that I do not like is the date formatting...
I use the en/US version because I like the english UI, but I want the german
time formatting. How can I change that? This worked in the previous versions
nicely... And I didn'z find a way to switch this somewhere in the config
settings...

Thanks!

Ok, I found it - the LC_ALL was not applied properly - now german time
formatting is applied - beside the 2-digit years only display, it seems to be
correct now.

Thanks again!

Best regards,

Erik
