SMTP is for sending messages.

Reception is handled via POP3 or IMAP.

POP3 downloads everything. IMAP synchronizes with the server.

When did downloading message bodies with SMTP become available?
I though SMTP was for sending messages.

Instead of re marking it as unread, you can right click on the
heading and select "tag". This gives you a range of types of

Create a folder on your local system, for this example I will assume

/home/harsha/Documents/MyMailArchive

Then in SeaMonkey Mail go to the inbox select ALL the messages in the
index pane that you want to archive and right-click "Save As..." and
select the folder above and all emails will be saved as individual EML
files. Then you can delete away from your your inbox.

Take care,

Larry
___
At present I have one computer running Win 7 . I am trying to use Seamonkey for
both browsing and mail . As mentioned in previous posts I have been using the
Webmail interface to read / reply my mail on the ISP's mailserver. My mail has
piled up and the postmaster is after me to clear some space :-)
I would like to download all the mail (inbox/sent etc) to my computer and
delete all mail on the ISP's server. The ISP recommends using IMAP rather than
POP mail. I looked at the settings for mail in Seamonkey and the choices
confuse me. I hate to make the wrong choices and loose all that data.

Under Mail & News groups Account settings -> copies & folders->
When sending messages place a copy Sent Folder [1] folder on xxx @ shaw.ca or
[2] local folder

There are similar choices for message archives, drafts and templates but no
mention of inbox .

Under Mail & News groups Account settings ->synchronization & space , there is
a place to tick for "keep messages for this account on this computer" but
nothing else .

So I am confused and concerned about messing things up :-)

If a folder in SM is synched with the IMAP server and you delete an
email on the computer it will be deleted from the server.

The usual practice in this forum is to bottom-post -- reply below the
previous message. But if you include the signature from the previous
message, that creates problems.

OK, I didn't notice you were using Zimbra instead of SeaMonkey. In
SeaMonkey, everything below the signature delimiter is grayed out, and
when replying, it is omitted from the quoted material. I don't know what
Zimbra does.

See here for a screenshot:
<https://postimg.org/image/qj9j31bdz/>

No, I didn't quote your message.

> PS I was just warned <pau...@pbgdashtranslations.com> is not a valid

Good. It's not supposed to be valid. If I use a valid address here, I'll
get buried in spam because spammers can harvest addresses from these
fora. But a human being looking at that address can usually figure out
what part to change to make it valid.

Paul B. Gallagher

Thank you Paul for the advice. I do recall about the "Delimiter" from Fido(?)
but forgot all about it in the recent years.
Also I recall that top-posting really upsets some folks . I will try to
remember that custom also.
Yes I am using the webmail interface of my ISP. That's the reason for the
current rush to learn about IMAP and synchronisation

Please do not write anything below the signature delimiter ("-- "). Your

At this point I am using Webmail on the ISP's mail server to read & reply my
mail . It has nearly reached my quota of the space. I need to clear some space
on that server (messages from the postmaster :-) ). However it is stuff that I
want to save for future reference. So instead of deleting that mail, I want to
download it on to my computer.

My ISP's server supports both POP and IMAP prtocols and they recommend using
IMAP.

I want to download all the mail (and various sub-folders) on to my system and
delete it all from the ISP's server.

Thunderbird was recommended but I find it a bit overpowering :-) and I do
prefer the Browser+Mailer combination of Seamonkey.

I looked at "synchronise option" but find it confusing ( thats my own lack of
grey-cells). So how do I download the mail (inbox/sent mail/ address-book etc)
and simultaneously delete it from the ISP's server. The messages go back
several months :-(

My OS is Win-7 and I downloaded Seamonkey v2.40. I would appreciate some help
in setting up that "Synchronise" feature.
Thanks for your help.

SeaMonkey

Underpinnings: Gecko
Focus: old-school all-in-one Internet suite
SeaMonkey has been around for nearly ten years, and it’s still going strong—but
SeaMonkey is an ideal choice only for hardcore web users who want almost
everything you could possibly think of in one package.
SeaMonkey integrates a browser, an email client, a RSS and newsgroup client, an
HTML editor, and an IRC client. The only thing missing from this suite is the
ability to download torrents… but you can get that as an add-on.
