Printing error with seamonkey

2016-08-18 Thread Patrick Begou

I've some trouble with printing with seamonkey.

OS: centOS 6.8 (fresh install) but home directory via NFS and using previously
an old version 1.x of seamonkey.

Seamonkey is 2.40 (latest available in centOS 6.8)

Printing from seamonkey I just get a page with "PS error: syntaxerror"
Printing from seamonkey in a postscript file an then sending this file to the
printer works (lp myfile.ps).

Any idea where to look for ?
I've searched in About:config but it's very huge...

Re: Continuous disk acces for seamonkey mail

2014-04-10 Thread Patrick Begou

The problem is back this morning.
OK, chatzilla is installed in this seamonkey version (it is not on my old one).
I agree with a possible network storage problem for seaymonkey files, but that I
do not understand is why it occurs on this computer only for this user. I've to
check for more a long time with an other computer as problem seams to increase
with use of seamonkey-mail.

I have nearly 20 clients, all with NFS mounted home, all using seamonkey-mail
and no other client shows the problem.

I've re-installed the PC from scratch, no changes.
This PC and the other clients are plugged on the same switch.

May be we'll try to create a new profile for this user and test again
Mays be we'll try to move to an other MUA solution...

Patrick, if you have to go that extra step and re-install SM, when you
de-install it, it does not normally delete your profile, so when you then
re-install SM, it may re-locate this profile. If you want to try a new profile
(which could be a reasonable move *before* de-installing SM), go to
Tools-Switch Profiles and then select Create new Profile

I've yet tested de-install/re-install and it doesn't change seamonkey behavior.

But yesterday i've got the solution. Using the strings command on
addons.sqlite-journal was showing also many occurences of chatzilla, an addon
added by the user. We have removed all it's addons including chatzilla, and now
semonkey is working fine (mainly used for email by this user) and I do not
notice any unusual network activity.

Moreover, the user was not using chatzilla.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions to solve the problem.

NOTE!

It is not possible, NOT POSSIBLE, to have the .sqlite files of
seamonkey (or any other .sqlite files) on NFS storage! Neither
on SMB storage, for that matter.
Doing so will lead to corruption, failure to apply the journal
file, etc. Precisely what you mention.

You should copy them to the local disk, let seamonkey work with
them there, and copy back on logout.

But how can you setup this when all the home directories are accessed via NFS ?
All the storage is in the datacenter for security purpose (raid array of disks
on two redundant NFS servers in a secured room). This also allows standart
client configuration with no local user data.

Patrick

NB: as said in the previous mail, the problem seams solved and related to the
chatzilla addon installed by this user.

Patrick, Why did you turn off automatic folder compression?? In doing so,
you have set yourself up for creating a huge inbox folder which will be
looking for more and more space on your HD.

Hi Daniel,

Yes, I know this but I would like to understand what is this continuous disk
access. So I've disabled this automatic compression at this time.

Try File-Empty Trash then File-Compact Folders and see what happens.

This doesn't solve the problem. Since yesterday, I've worked on this problem
but still no solution.

That I know now is:
- The file concerned by this continous write is
.mozilla/seamonkey/aw16q4e9.default/addons.sqlite-journal

- Seamonkey-mail write nearly 10 Mbytes/s in this file.
- the content of the file must be overwriten, as its size doesnt grow.
- a strings command on the file show mainly ocurences of
https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/img/uploads/previews/.../xxx.png; URLs.

I've restarted seamonkey with all plugin disabled but it doesn't change and
moreover seamonkey seam to hang now when asking again for this page
(about:addons).

As the home is a NFS storage, this client generate an average network load of
100Mbits/s continuously

Hi Raymond,

Thanks a lot for thos link: it was the problem!
As I restrict my google search to seamonkey keyword I've not find it before.

Some weeks ago, seamonkey-mail hangs on this PC and the mailbox get corrupted.
The user has launched a restore of his .mozilla tree from the backup server,
removed the locks files (may be I should exclude these files from the backup)
and started a new saemonkey-mail session. But the old seamonkey-mail session was
still active in background, without any visible graphic interface.

And these linux PC are runing 7days/7, 24h/24, so no reboot to clear the
session...
nethog command was showing a seamonkey-mail command with high netwok activity
but I didn't notice different PID.

I've asked the user to close his seamonkey session and I've killed the remaining
semonkey process. Now all is OK.

Thanks again!

2.4.1-0.2.1 x86_64 hang with mail

2011-11-29 Thread Patrick Begou

I've a strange problem with seamonkey 2.4.1 x86_64.
System is OpenSuse x86_64 fresh install, with all updates.
The home directory is nfs mounted.
The user was runing seamonkey ssh seamonkey-2.0.11-2.2 x86_64 on his previous
workstation

On a new workstation seamonkey 2.4.1hangs at startup.
I've removed all the .mozilla/seamonkey in the user's home:
  - seamonkey works,
  - I configure again the mail acount without downloading any mail,
  - I restart seamonkey and it hangs again.

I've dowgraded seamonkey to 2.0.14-0.2.1 x86_64 and all work fine.

I do not find anything with google (except some people having similar problem
but without solution).

Any idea where to start ?

Thanks

Re: seamonkey freeze when using toolbar menus

2011-10-14 Thread Patrick Begou
I remember that this problem occured after a electrical power failure of the PC
some a weeks ago.

This morning I logout from the computer and logon as root, then ran

find /tmp -user begou -exec ls -ld {} \;
find /var -user begou -exec ls -ld {} \;

to list temporary and system files remainning, and then:

find /tmp -user begou -exec rm -rf {} \;
find /var -user begou -exec rm -rf {} \;

to remove all of them (I wasn't logged on as begou).

This solves the problem.

You can try the standard Mozilla version; download and extract to a home

- I've no messages in the terminal where I launch seamonkey excepted:
/Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve
property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value
((GString*) 0x7fa781422200) of type `GString'/
/*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to
enable). /
//usr/bin/firefox: line 139:  1893 Processus arrêté  $MOZ_PROGRAM $@/
But I have these for every login.

- I've no messages in /var/log/messages.

I'm a little bit confused with this and any suggestion is welcome.

Patrick

It's helpful if you tell us which distro version, plus how you
installed SeaMonkey.

seamonkey freeze when using toolbar menus

2011-10-10 Thread Patrick Begou
I have a strange problem with seamonkey on my desktop: If I try to use the
toolbar menu (files / edit / view... etc) seamonkey freeze. Firefox follows the
same behavior. I've ran several tests and I do not understand what happens:

- logged on the PC with gnome desktop the problem occurs.
- logged on the PC with icewm desktop the problem occurs.
- logged on the PC with another login, the problem do not occur.
- logged on the PC with another login and runing ssh -XC on the same PC with my
account, the problem do not occur.
- I've removed (logged with root) all the .* files directories in my home
directory and moved .mozilla directory out. The problem still occurs.

- I've removed/installed-again seamonkey. The problem still occurs.

/*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to
enable). /

//usr/bin/firefox: line 139:  1893 Processus arrêté  $MOZ_PROGRAM $@/
But I have these for every login.

- I've no messages in /var/log/messages.

I'm a little bit confused with this and any suggestion is welcome.
