You can install this addon by clicking 'install anyway'. It will
install, but it doesn't fix the problems. Menu fonts are several
different sizes, the mail panes are all over the place, and web pages
are way too small. Still no resolution. I'm thinking of going back to
2.17.

After further thought, and increasing frustration, I went ahead and
tried the add-on, figuring I could always remove it. It did install, and
seems to have fixed the problem. I increased font size (using the
add-on) to 13 and menus and tool bars are now back to normal. No bad
effects in Web pages.

So, seems to have worked in my case(XP SP 3, SM 2.19).

Larry

I did install the same add-on and Seamonkey looks fine as in older
versions. I set the font size at 13 pts.

(I posted this before in another thread)

Windows XP Pro SP3 Seamonkey 2.19
I use an old 17 inch CRT monitor, resolution 800 x 100 at 120%

I applied the setting:
about:config layout.css.devPixelsPerPx : 1.0 default : -1.0
Web content is 100% but the menu fonts became very tiny in the browser
and in email.

Installed the Theme Font Size Changer add-on

It places a very big button at the navigation bar left from the throbber

No, from all I know, it's now actually respecting that 125% setting
while before it wrongly ignored this setting completely. So, from that
POV, a bug has been actually fixed.

And yet, the browser becomes completely unusable when 125% fonts
are selected. Web pages appear two steps zoomed, and if one
applies the recommended fix to About:Config::layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
- +1 (default : -1), the system/Chrome fonts then appear unreadably small.

I am sure you would agree that it is extremely unlikely that
Internet Explorer does not also respect font-size: medium,
yet it and Seamonkey 2.17.1 render the same page almost
identically while IE and Seamonkey 2.19 render it completely
differently (the latter being two zoom steps larger, as
stated above).

Cecil, Zanqeutil has supplied you a link to an extension which should do
what you need.

If you were to go to
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/extensions/?sort=name , you
would see an extensive list of extension available. Some of them are
greyed out, indicating they are not suitable (as is) for SeaMonkey.

If you then put some description for the extension you are interested in
(e.g. Video Download), you should end up with a list of extension
available to do what you require.

HTH

Daniel, there are a lot of video (YouTube) downloaders.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/search/?q=videocat=1%2C0appver=2.14.1platform=windows

But 'Download YouTube Videos as MP4' is very simpel and works fine with
Seamonkey 2.14.1, Firefox 17, gets regular updates. That's why I like
this add-on. I tried a couple of other ones.

There are also general download managers, capable of downloading video's
and other stuf. But they are more complicated for average users.

Thanks for the links. I remember after the Office 2007 public 6 month beta

I'm quite sure UbitMenu will work in Windows 8, it just copies 3 files

(Word)UBitMenu04XX.dotx,(Excel)UBitMenu04XX.xlam,(Powerpoint)

They are just Office add-ins, no executable files. Ubit sometimes copies
them to the 'wrong' location, you can easely relocate them.

Yes this is a different tool.

This is what Speedyfox claims to do:

How does it work?

'Firefox (and sometimes it's add-ons) uses SQLITE databases to store
lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts
working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any
data. Databases are optimized to operate faster and are decreased in size:'

Well, i just saw a hint in a thread on de.comm.software.mozilla.mailnews
that the problem requires a non-English language pack. And indeed, after
installing seamonkey-2.10.de.langpack.xpi on my English SM 2.10,
starting this 2.10 with -mail shows my POP3-account collapsed.

But only if i have selected German under Preferences-Appearance. After
switching to English (United States) the problem is gone.

Now, a lot of you have seen the problem on your SMs. What about your
language packs, if any?

Hartmut

I use the localised Dutch (NL) version of Seamonkey 2.10.1
Inbox shows up in Dutch as *Postvak In* I use POP3

I first noticed this bug in SM 2.9 or 2.9.1, not quite sure.

Some people claim that the collapsed folder pane only appears when you
start Seamonkey with the -mail setting, but I never used that setting.

I normally start Seamonkey the browser and later switch (Window) to
email and see the wrong collapsed folderpane with the (-) sign.

Clicking the (-) once I get the normal (+) sign.

When I close and restart Seamonkey this (+) state is preserved.
The expanded state is not.

There is neither (+) nor (-) sign here. What theme are you using?

Hartmut

I currently use Seamonkey Default Theme.
(-) and (+) is the way Windows XP shows it. Vista and Windows 7 show
triangles.

In your screenshot (SM Linux) I also see little triangles.
GMX: triangle pointing downwards = expanded,
Local Folders: triangle pointed sideways = collapsed.

But in windows XP this is different.
to summarize in Windows XP: (+) = collapsed, (-) = expanded

So it's OS depended.

If this is the case, how can I reclaim my sent files??

I'm now guessing this is the case as I've checked the AVG Vault folder

On advice I received on the alt.windows7.general group on my Usenet

sent e-mail folder. I restored the file, deleted an e-mail I had sent
reporting a scam e-mail (supposedly from paypal, probably), compacted
the profile and re-ran the AVGall clear this time!Luckily.

Nice to hear that you could solve your problem with the messages in the

mistakes with false positives.

Daniel if you made a recent backup copy of your Seamonkey profile
why don't you copy the backup files 'sent (no extension)' and 'sent.msf'
to your current SM profile ? Sent.msf is not really needed.

AVG probably stored the contents of your now affected sent folder in
quarantaine ($AVG) it's a hidden system folder.

As far as I remember AVG has an option to place the quarantained files
back to it's original location. I'm not sure, Kaspersky can do this.

Well, isn't that a bit overreacting? You're jeopardizing your security
for something as simple as a busy cursor. Let's compare:

a) 2.7.x: exposed to 8 security issues only fixed in SM 2.8:
https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/seamonkey.html

b) 2.8: busy cursor (wallpaper fix: toggle ui.use_activity_cursor in

Jens, come on, SM 2.7.2 is not that old and 2.8 repaires some
vulnerability's. There are threats in the waiting we still don't know
yet. But they sure will be repaired when they are discovered :-)

But I absolutely agree, security has or should always have priority.
But I don't agree as you state something as simply as a busy cursor

I read a lot of newsgroups. I found it irritating and distracting.
So I decided to revert back to SM 2.7.2

I did not know about this setting: ui.use_activity_cursor.

I will set it to false and see what it does.

Your answer makes no sence, I don't use Linux and our problem has
nothing to do with font settings. It's a SM 2.8 newsgroup problem.

Grab hold of one of the sides of the screen with your mouse pointer and
reduce the width of the window.

I tried that several times but that does nothing. When I click on the
sides I get a system error sound (sort of doink) and the bookmark window

I would rename the file localstore.rdf in the profile of the stubborn SM
after closing it. The file will be recreated the next time SM starts.

But you will lose custom settings you have made in the past. Therefore
renaming and not deleting, so you have a way to go back if needed.

Hartmut

Thanks Harmut, I followed your suggestion and renaming localstore.rdf
did the trick. I now have the much smaller (not too wide) file Bookmark
window back and as you mentioned some window settings have been changed
back to the standard SM configuration after the new localstore.rdf was
created, but that is easy to change.

You don't click the window borders, you hover the cursor and it will
change to a border-dragging symbol. *Then* click (once) and drag the
window to an appropriate width or height. Also, hovering a corner will
change to a diagonal arrow for click/drag.

I can move the window left/right/up/down when I click/grab the top bar
with the red X but nothing else.

That's what you should expect if you click in the window title bar. To
resize it, you need to hover an actual border of the window. This is all
standard GUI stuff from way back to Windows 2.0, and earlier in other
graphical operating systems.

Standard GUI stuff since Windows 2.0 and earlier, You mean DOS 1.0 ?

Yes, very nice explanation, it should work like this, but it did not
because the localstore.rdf file in some way was corrupted as Hartmut
Figge explained to me. I followed his advise and all is well now.

Question for you:

Do a Ctrl-D, the file Bookmark Window pops up, can you hover the borders
to enlarge or decrease the window as you can in the Bookmark manager ? I
have the standard smaller file bookmark manager window back
but in SM 2.7.2 still no way to hover the borders, no arrow cursor
symbols and not in SM 2.7.2 portable.

You can't even do this in Firefox 1.0.0.2, try it, I can't, at least not
on my system.

I have an older Portable SM 2.0.1.4 on an USB stick, there I can do
this. There I see the double arrow cursor symbols in the File Bookmark
window. Here I can make this window smaller/bigger.

Zanqeutil

I am just idly wondering if this is a timing problem.
I.e. SM replies too quickly to username/password from the server,
and the server doesn't get the message.
Perhaps the connection and authentication protocol/conversation
between SM and the server should be paced at a human interaction
speed with few milliseconds of delays between the back and forth
messages.

Perhaps that is part of it, but I think there is more to it. Things are
working now after closing out and restarting. I have the password
manager open to the news.individual.net and it shows two entries for the
news server, one with the username and one with the password in addition
to a single entry for userid/password on the web site. When the problem
is occurring the two news server entries disappear from the password
manager. Perhaps they are being removed after an authentication failure
from the server. Perhaps they are being removed for some reason and
causing the authentication failure.

Dave

Yes I noticed the same missing entries in the password mager after an
authentication failure. I had these problems after the upgrade from SM
2.41 to SM 2.5. It lasted a couple of days.

Newsservers: (both require authentication)

news-ziggo.nl

Other newsservers without authentication like news.mozilla.org and

It just happened again on my SM 2.8a1. As usually i cured it by
replacing the signons.sqlite from a backup.

First i encountered this issue with SM 2.7a1 at the time when i decided
to use Nighlys again after a long time of refusal. I reported it to a
German news group on 5.10.2011 and was told, that it happened for some
weeks to some others. Not all.

Not often and in no way reproducible so filing a bug would not help.
After repairing now with the help of a backup i assume that i will not
be bothered until tomorrow or later.

Hartmut

Hi Hartmut.

It's always good to have a recent backup of the SM profile folder.

Question about replacing the signons.sqlite from a backup.

I don't use a master password, so in case if it happens again, there is
probably no need to replace the key3.db file as well, only the
signons.sqlite file.

Another strange thing.

After updating to SM 2.5 I could not login to ethernal-september.

I tried to enter my username and password, no succes. Then I tried again
(multiple times) now with succes, username and password were again
stored in the password manager, but all the headers for the subscribed
newsgroups showed up as unread. Strange..

You can have separation installation folders for SeaMonkey and it works
just fine. I cannot say the same will be true for any extensions/themes
you have in v2.0.14, though.

Is it possible to keep my old SM v2.0.14 (had it installed in
d:\winstuff\SeaMonkey2\ since v2.0.0 as a clean install because of v1.x
in another folder/directory [uninstalled last year or so) profile, and
then make a new v2.3.2 profile to upgrade my v2.0.14 profile with
v2.3.2's full installer (internal updater shows v2.2 and I want to save
time with downloads and internal upgrades)?

Basically, I want to keep v2.0.14 and its old profile untouched. Install
SM v2.3.2 in a different folder/directory and upgrade its old profile in
a NEW profile including the old extensions and addons (if possible, or
else I will have to redownload, reinstall, and reconfigure). I want both
SM2 have their own profiles and locations.

I forgot to mention that this would be for Windows (32-bit Pro. SP3 and
64-bit W7 HPE) and Debian/Linux. Let's worry about Windows first for
now. ;)

Hmm, this is getting complex. :(

You can also install Seamonkey 2.0.14 Portable and copy/move
the contents of your old SM 20.14 profile to the portable version.

Seamonkey Portable keeps the profile in it's main folder.

SM 2.1 much faster on old PC

2011-06-19 Thread Zanqeutil

I installed Seamonkey 2.1 (on top) Seamonkey 2.0.14 in the same folder

Everything works without flaws, bookmarks, email, passwords, all was
there and works fine, without a glitch. I have tested SM 2.1 for about
a week now. SM 2.0.14 sometimes crashed, SM 2.1 did not, so far.

To my surprise SM 2.1 loads and renders much faster then SM 2.0.14.
on this old system. Windows 2000 PRO (SP4)
AMD athlon 2500, Ram 1 GB, Video Ati Radion 7500,64 mb

Java based webcams seem to have a more crispy look (more contrast).
I don't how that is possible with this old video-card.

Thanks Seamonkey team !

Zanqeutil

Works here with Seamonkey 2.0.6, and with Firefox 3.6.8 but Seamonkey

Works great, looks good with Seamonkey 2.0.5, Windows 2000-SP4.

Info from the site:

This is a port of the old Netscape 4.x/Mozilla Suite Classic theme for

Netscape, this theme also includes new icons of the Add-on Manager,

I installed it from the place you gave and was excited for retrieving
the traditional classic theme of netscape/mozilla/seamonkey 1.x
unfortunately some icon are not in place.
forward keeps the one of default SM 2.X
and reload gets no icon at all
curious
is it some way to get all in place ?

No problems here.

Forward (email) has the classic 1.x icon.

Reload, I have never seen a reload icon in the email section

Reload in the browser part has the old classic 1.x icon
Just like the one in the screenshot at the add-on site
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/46108/

You can try to add the reload icon to the bar.
Right-click the navigation bar, choose customize, drag drop the reload

You could have also gone to the View menu then zoom and increased the
font size in the message window as large as you need.

No it has nothing to with the font size, it's more about the old icon
set I was familiar with. Yes they look a bit outdated but I missed them.

There's nothing wrong with the new Default Seamonkey 2.xx theme, it
looks nice and fresh, but the classic theme (icons) has more contrast

for me, especially the folders in the in the emailpane.

Hum, it's not that bad for me but you're right usually SM2 should
perform better in javascript performance than SM1, not worse.

I cannot confirm that, SM2 is at 0% CPU load when browsing that site
here. This seems to be another issue then. (try verify that in safe-mode
or with a new profile, if it's gone then, probably an extension causes
this)

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't have any add-ons installed in SM2 And SM1

I think (hope) I solved the problem.

I had 2 versions of Java Installed 1.4.1.02 (old leftover) and
Java 1.6.0-11.

I uninstalled both and installed the latest version of Java jre 1.6.0-17

about:plugins in SM1 and SM2 showed the new version correctly:
Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U17

(I did not reboot)

The 2 sites as mentioned above showed no improvement.
SM1 sluggish and SM2 100% CPU load.

But, oh wonder, this morning I started my PC and the sites are fine now.
both in SM1 and SM2, so the reboot did some magic |-)

The worst thing is that one:
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7850/zwischenablage01wl.png (100KB)
Probably some stupid Javscript moving it. When you open Taskanager and
hover with the mouse over that line so that the side-scrolling stops,
you can see the CPU load decreases drastically. The webmaster is
calculating too many steps for scrolling it seems.

Note: I'm using Flashblock*, this might reduce CPU-load even more if a
flash animation is running there (at least one flash element has been
blocked on that site for me)

Martin

Please keep in mind that Javs is _not_ Javascript.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your answer.

I did a quick test.

I disabled Java in SM2 (preferences) and now this same site runs fine.
http://www.daralhayat.com/morenews/english/

I'm still wandering why badly written java scripts affects SM2 more then
SM 1.1.18 on my system. I even cannot move my mouse when I use SM2.

So I cannot hoover over that line, as you suggested in your screenshot.

Strange that these sites loads normally in Opera and IE6

SM 2.01 high CPU load

2009-12-18 Thread Zanqeutil

I love Seamonkey 2.0 and now 2.01 !

The migration went without any problems, SM2 ipmorted everything from
SM 1.1.18.

Question.

This site completely feezes my PC in SM2.

http://www.daralhayat.com/morenews/english/

SM2 CPU load is 100 %. I have to kill SM2 in the taskmanager and
that takes minutes because I can hardly move my mouse.

SM 1.1.18, same site: CPU load is 88 - 93 %, browsing the site is
possible but sluggish.

The same site loads with no problems with IE 6.1 and Opera 10.10.

Has it to do with Java, site errors or my system ?

System: Win 2K Pro (SP4) AMD 2500, 1 Gig memory,
Java 1.6.0-11, Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
